Hello Rangers,
I just finished up OSUT and was loaded onto the buses to go straight to Airborne. I went out and bought an old ALICE rucksack to ruck w/ during Airborne. When we first got to Airborne a guy from regiment gave us a quick brief, answered any questions we had, asked us to quit with the choice of any duty station we wanted (one guy quit), and scared us all a bit. He reccomended rucking w/ 65lbs. I'm ready to kick my ass at airborne to help better prepare myself. Basic went well for me and I'm happy to finally be away from all the immaturity and lazy dudes. I lucked out and am rooming with a few NCO's instead of privates. That is all.

Re: Sitrep - Airborne
Go with a training weight of 45lbs as a primary, and 60 as an alternate. Do 2 light walks with 45, and do one with 60 per week. You will have time in the evenings to dedicate at least an hour to rucking, and throw in a 2 hour session on the week end. Contrary to popular belief, cardiac hill is your friend. The only thing you need to worry about is toughening up your feet and getting your shoulders used to moving with a load, the rest is all in your mind.
They will tell you to "keep your feet and knees together" in jump school, and they are absolutely right. If you do that when you land, you can pretty much land on anything and walk away. If you don't, it could be ugly.
Don't quit.

I would echo the above statement. "Jump School" is a blast. Stay focused, listen to the BlackHats, and enjoy the training. You'll be sprouting wings soon. Keep your knees to the breeze!ZoneIV wrote:Well during Airborne school, you are now given the most freedom you have experienced in you short career in the Army. You need to temper yourself with this new found freedom. Do NOT lose sight of your objective. Keep focused and stay out of trouble. Keep us updated on your progress.

Re: Sitrep - Airborne
You got the perfect advice. It's easy to hurt yourself rucking - follow the regimen D laid out. From here on out, from the fear of hieghts in the 34ft tower to your first 65# 12 miler, it's all mind over matter.
Make it happen.
Make it happen.

Rangers,
I've read the advice and will start rucking tomorrow. I'll have to go find Cardiac Hill because I don't know where that mother fucker is but I'm going to make it my friend before I get to RASP.

Oh and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on where to store all of my extra gear that I don't want to lug into RASP.

Get a storage space in town somewhere...or do the duffle bag drag up the street.
Advice: don't store any initial issue clothing....you never know when the cadre will..........well, nevermind. You'll find out!!!!!!!
