Hello All,
My son is in week 1 of RIP/RASP, hoping to graduate on Oct 23 2009. We plan to travel cross country to witness his donning the tan beret, assuming that all goes well for him of course.
My question: does anyone know what is customary, or what are the odds are for his getting some leave after grad? If he's going to get the weekend off, we want to stay in GA; if he's likely to get a weeks leave he'll want to fly to CA I'm sure; we don't want to be sitting in GA with plane tickets we can't change.
Any input before we commit to travel would be very welcome.
Thanks,
Daja

Typically, from personal experience and those of others, you receive a 4 day pass upon graduation of RIP, but no actual "leave", ie you don't sign a leave form or have days taken out. I've never heard of leave being taken at graduation of RIP. You have the weekend/4 day pass, and then begin to outprocess from RIP and inprocess into your battalion.
However, I'm not familiar at all with the new "RASP" program and it's implications, so I can't answer as to how that would affect graduations

We received two weeks leave after graduation, but that was due to block leave. I guess I should say that all of the graduates assigned to *3rd batt* received two weeks leave. I imagine that this still happens.

That's JOTC you're referring to??Hung Low wrote:My whole class got leave after RIP. Me and a similarly wise graduate opted not to take leave and get to Bn in time to deploy to Ft. Sherman for JWTC.

When my son graduated RIP a little over a year ago, he graduated on a Friday, didn't get his PCS orders until Wednesday, and then he had approx 10 days to get all his shit together and moved to Washington state (2nd bat).
