Well, this sucks

Post by rehevam »

Well, my Rangering days are over for a while.

I started RS with class 09-09 and made it through RAP week with no issues, then moved on to Darby. However, I got recycled for failing patrols. I spent a couple weeks in Vaughan's platoon and inserted into class 10-09 on Thursday. I was pretty fired up to start again, having gotten my recycle "out of the way..."

Saturday morning we did our jump into Fryar, and that afternoon, I was standing in formation waiting for the next event. Next thing I knew I woke up in an ambulance and spent the next three days in the hospital.

I don't remember a thing, but apparently I blacked out and had a seizure out at Darby. The docs at Columbus Regional found a blood clot on my brain. I got med dropped from RS today, and told by the Bde Cdr to come back when everything is cleared up. Who knows when that will be? ?? I've got follow up appointments with neurosurgeons to figure out what to do with me. I'll have to see how those go.

All in all, five weeks at RS with ZERO to show for it. What a wasted opportunity. For now I guess I'll just worry about getting better, then see what the future holds for me and Ranger School....

Geez, dude. Head clots are a pretty big deal. A whole lot bigger than a tab. Go get better, then get yer shit.

That sucks. Hope all goes well for you and that you make a complete recovery. Do the docs have any idea of how this clot came about?r

Tough luck but at least they found it before it found you! You can always come back and suck some more. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the encouragement Rangers. Right now, just stuck on hold waiting for my follow up appointment with the neurosurgeon....

Ranger Bill, the docs thought it was probably from some past head trauma, but I can't think of what it could have been. The only possibility is my last jump at Airborne school. I hit my head pretty hard and saw a flash of light. BUT, that was way back in March, so who knows? Seems like if that was it, I would have known it before now.

Sometimes it a while for the blood to form into sufficient clots to do damage.

Most of your brain was belly-button lint and assorted mouse droppings...it's no fucking wonder you got a clot.

Get that shit heavily documented, and then make certain that you squirrel copies of the medical records away in hard copy. Maintain a complete set of parallel medical files.

When the day comes for you to hang up the ruck, those files will be worth their weight in gold when you go sit down with the VA.

Thanks for the advice Ranger ma91c1an. I've been to the hostpital today filling out request forms to get copies of everything they have.

Ranger KH, don't worry, you will have to put up with me again sooner or later. Just depends on my recovery time and deployment schedule. I'm hanging around your AO a bit this week so we may cross paths while I wait to clear out of here.

get your shit fixed as others have said. it's serious.

now, 5 weeks at school and nothing to show for it? really? you learned nothing from it that you can take forward with you? nothing that will make you more prepared to succeed when you get back there, or up to speed at your unit for that matter?

if that's really true, then you did waste your time going. how's that 3rd Stanza apply here?

life sucks some days. how we deal with it is the measure of success.
