Re: RIP Update
For RIP? That was the hardest endurance (hence term gut check) portion of the course "back when it was hard"Silverback wrote:Definitely wouldn't bank on this being true.Oto-Man wrote:The BIG gut check is out of the way...
I dunno, from the goarmy website:
Daily Physical Training
Ranger History test
Map Reading
APFT
Airborne Operation
Ranger Standards
Day and night land navigation
5-mile run
Combatives
Knots
Combat Water Survival Test
6, 8 and 10-mile road marches
Driver Training (DDC Card)
Fast Rope Training
Combat Lifesaver certification
So then, SB, please enlighten my on the "Big gut checks" that they have instituted in RIP in the past 20 yrs... it is my understanding that waterboarding and emergency in flight rudder repair have been dropped from the course since Obamy took office....
I understand that some things are harder for some people...if you can't swim CWST would suck, if you can't run...5 mile run could kick your ass...but I was making the assumption that said stud had the mental/physical faculties and basic abilities to at least pass tests with min. standards.
My bad....

I do Agree with that 100%...and it is certainly true that "it ain't over til it's over". Re: RIP Update
I didn't even know there was a day room, we used to just jump from the windows and run like hell for the gate!!!I didn't know we had a gym until I separated my shoulder after I had been there for 15 months...Medic sd "You do your PT in the Gym for the next 6 weeks"...I was like...what gym?"Caruthers wrote:first 3 days in Aco...............fuck I could do RIP on my head after that. It wasn't that bad....uh...ok so it was, but it was well worth it.
I can say the first 3 WEEKS were nuts...but as bad as we had it in B Co....We could hear the screams from A Co. across the Quad long after we were put to bed.
But don't worry Ma'am, the screams weren't real...they were just told to do it while they were playing cards and sipping Orange Crush Soda....

Son back from Cole Range -- still enjoying himself!
I asked him what he thought of RIs. He said, "Mean as heck, but they like to laugh." Kind of describes this list, doesn't it? : P

Re: RIP Update
No more 12 milers? We did all the stuff above but did rappelling off of an old USAF radar tower and we did the swim test in a tide pool near a tide gate...yep, gators and all :)

Re: RIP Update
Good Afternoon Rangers! I just had a phone call from my very excited son. He's got a slot in the 1st Battalion. Just one more bit of suck left - the 12 mile ruck march. My suitcase is packed.
