“Fund for Veterans Assistance”

Post by Caruthers »

This is more of an “fyi”… although I know as a City employee most of you won’t be able to attend due to the time of day; and some of you are deployed. I just wanted you to be aware of what the Texas Veterans Commission is doing in support of Texas Veterans. This new Fund is call the “Fund for Veterans Assistance”; and if this scratch off lottery ticket (Bill) passes, it will generate an estimated 8.5 million dollars annually used to help Veterans, active duty military, and their families who are in financial need.

Press conference in support of legislation to create a lottery ticket to generate revenue for the Fund to benefit Veterans.

When: Monday 4 May 09

Time: 9:30 am

Where: State Capitol, Lt Governor's Room

Why: Press Conference to support House Bill HB 1299 and Senate Bill SB 421 which will create a lottery ticket which will benefit the Fund for Veterans Assiatnce.

Directions: State Capitol main building; second floor; east side of the Senate chambers.

The authors of SB 421 (Senator Leticia Van de Putte), and HB 1299 (Representative Chris Turner) will be present to explain the importance of the scratch-off lottery ticket to generate revenue for the Fund for Veterans Assistance. Input and support from the veterans' community is welcome and solicited.

Please forward this email to the members of your organizations and ask as many veterans as possible to attend the press conference.

Strength in numbers.

A veteran is a person who, at one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "Up to and Including My Life".

We do not look upon Veterans as an interruption of our job.

They are the purpose of it.

We are not doing them a favor….they are doing us a favor by letting us assist them!
