At the moment I'm applying for recruitment into the Rangers while in AIT because I was disqualified from going Airborne at MEPS. I have 20/20 vision in my right eye but a near visual acuity of 20/200 and a distant visual acuity of 20/80 in my left. This is a birth defect in my optic nerve and no surgery or lens can correct it. I have perfect color vision, and otherwise have all ones in my physical profile.
According to AR 40-501, the medical standards for the Army, I qualify for airborne since I have a better DVA than 20/20 vision in one eye and 20/100 in the other. So this means I don't need a waiver, right? Does it matter that I (possibly) meet the standards even though I have a 111121 profile?
I don't know how to go about getting an airborne physical or a medical waiver if I happen to need one but I'm going to ask my platoon sergeant tomorrow. Hopefully when that happens I'll be squared away.
My other question is what is the likelihood that my contract will be changed? Rumor has it that Airborne school is really backed up right now and the wait as a holdover is long (I've been a holdover at AIT for almost a month now). Would this have any bearing? Finally, If I were to wait until after EMT certification and submit my PT scores and GPA, would that have any bearing? Thank you Rangers for your time.

You should not need any waivers for an option being added while in training. I've never heard of it, anyway.

Really? That's comforting. I'm meeting with a Sergeant today to do the paperwork.
