Hello Rangers and Everyone Else,

My name is Eric. I am 26 and new to the Army. I signed Reserve as a 37F recently. I've drilled with my new Company for 2 months (DEP), but don't expect it to be the challenge that my recruiter told me it would be. So now, I am reno'ing my contract, 11X/ABN/Opt. 40. I hope to be at Benning for OSUT in March.

I've several questions, and after poking around on this site for a while, I think that I'll poke around some more for answers prior to asking (except one, please see below*)... seems to be the preference of the members on this board.

Thanks.........

Eric

*If I am not offered Opt. 40 due to reno contract (not new enlistee), and I just take 11X/ABN, will I likely have a chance to volunteer for RIP at that point?
Luck is the residue of hard work.

That one has been asked alot of times............................. (hint: search! you might find answers to Q's you didn't yet know you had)
Rummage around the site in all the areas you have access to. It's a great way to eat up many hours of your day. Pay lots of attention to the Physical Fitness advive!

Sometimes you can, sometimes the opportunity doesn't present itself. It's best to secure that in your contract. Like Ranger Zonk said though, if you shine above the rest, you have a better chance of hooking up with a Ranger Liason during training.

Good luck, and welcome to the site.

Eric, if you're unable to secure an Opt. 40 you should be able to sign up for RIP during Airborne. Lately, they've been pulling all the Opt. 40 guys to a meeting with the Ranger Liasons during ground week and have invited anyone who is interested in volunteering for RIP as well. I dragged a couple of stand up guys from basic training to the meeting and they got their slots. Just make sure you maintain a high PT score.

That being said, things change all the time. However, that was the process when I went through a few years ago. If that is no longer the case, just talk to the black hats and tell them you want to see a Ranger Liason. They're right across the street.

Thanks for the advice Rangers. :)

Forgot to include that I am also a college grad. Not too keen on OCS off the bat. Personally, I don't think that the Army should allow civilians, such as myself, to enter directly into a commissioned officer position. Just my take.

My current status is such:

1) The UA at my PSYOP Company told me today at drill that he is unsure of how to approach my situation since he is new at the UA position. He recommends starting a DEP-Loss to circumvent the paperwork that inevitably will arise from my reno.

My view on this is such that our Company is nearly at 2X capacity and he has his hands too full to worry about me --- understandable. The Company has been recruiting like mad and is due to split into two separate companies in 6 months.

2) My recruiter doesn't want to DEP-Loss me. It will screw up his recruiting numbers from my sign on month. He tells me to be patient and await the reno sign off.... could take awhile since a 1* at Bragg apparently would need to sign off.

First he told me that I couldn't reno. After prodding and telling him that other recruiters which I contacted said that I could renegotiate, he agrees that I can. To compound the matter, I was recently laid off and need work. I think that it is time to cast aside my recruiter and find a new one.
Luck is the residue of hard work.

Thanks for the reply Ranger Ron and everyone else.

I have been using the [SEARCH] button quite a bit and am finding some good info to my questions. I'm trying to get my head on straight and PT squared away before I ship to Ft. Benning.

I will give a SITREP once my contract is finally renegotiated and I have my OSUT ship date. :)
