Pensylvania residents who served in the 1991 Persian Gulf Ware are eligible for cash bonuses under a program announced April 14. Surviving family members of veterans killed in the war are eligible.
The state's Persian Gulf Conflict Veterans Bonus pays eligible veterans $75 per month for each month (up to seven months or $525) of active duty they served in the Gulf War theater. GIs who were declared POW, died on active duty or died as a result of a service-connected condition can qualify for an additional benefit of $5,000.
To be eligible for the one-time benefit, veterans must have:
o Served in the U.S. Armed Forces, a reserve component or the Pennsylvania National Guard.
o Served on active duty in the Persian Gulf theater of operations between Aug 2, 1990-Aug 31, 1991, and received the Southwest Asia Service Medal.
o Been a legal resident of Pennsylvania while they were on active duty.
