Three special forces soldiers killed

Post by Chiron »

A staff report

Three Fort Bragg soldiers who were killed in Afghanistan earlier this week were identified Wednesday by the government.

Capt. Richard G. Cliff Jr., 29, of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; Sgt. 1st Class Jamie S. Nicholas, 32, of Maysel, W.Va.; and Sgt. 1st Class Gary J. Vasquez, 33, of Round Lake, Ill., died Monday when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device during mounted operations, according to a release from the Department of Defense.

The three soldiers were in Yakchal, Helmand Province Afghanistan, as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg.

They've had one rough deployment. Keep in mind an SF company has less than 90 guys per and the eight guys KIA so far from this battalion have been from just two companies.
