Nobody has mentioned Kenneth Roberts, author of "Northwest Passage".
He also wrote "Oliver Wiswell" (account of American revolution from the Loyalist point of view) "Rabble In Arms" (revolution from colonial point of view) "Arundel", "The Lively Lady" (name of a ship, not a hooker) "Lydia Bailey" (describes how Haiti has been a shithole for over 200 years)

Also C.S. Forster, author of the Horatio Hornblower novels.

"The Stainless Steel Rat" Series
"Bill, The Galactic Hero" first two books in the series, before he farmed the series out.

Old series', but worth going to the used bookstore and picking up. I read them in the 80's and picked up a few before I came back to AF. I had forgot how much I enjoyed them.

Several Cusslers, Lamour and McMurtry books on my shelves.
Lonesome Dove is the best movie of all time.

Haven't read Coonts, bit I liked early Stephen King (before his liberal lobotomy).

Another good author, or so I've been told by my son and other half: R.A. Salvatore and the "Forgotten Realms" series.

I like R.A. Salvatore also, but I think I burned myself out on him.
Books started sounding all the same, but I really enjoyed reading them, he paints a picture with his words and it is easy to see as you read.

I like his stuff too. He has a shitload of books out; the guy must be beyond rich.
