Introduction-Long
To everyone on this site especially Rangers and Veterans.
Location: Virginia
Rank: Specialist
Age: 19
MOS: 21J
My entry into the army began when i turned seventeen years old. I enlisted under the split-op program as a 21 Juliet,General Equipment Operator. I Completed basic training at Fort Knox Kentucky, And then went on to AIT at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri.
What brings me to this site? Ever since joining the national guard i have HATED just going one weekend a month. So when i finished AIT. I was lucky enough to find ADSW orders at my engineering unit. And i currently have almost two years of active duty under my belt. Which i find important, because those points will mean alot come retirement time. BUT most importantly, everyday i lead soldiers. Including some E-5's on general tasks, training. I give land navigation courses every third week out of a month. Even though I am becoming a leader, I still want more. More responsibility, more fun. More ARMY. I am leaving for a desert environment right before christmas. And starting August 19th we start our PRE-MOB. And have been designated a Team leader. Over E-5's, And i am prepared to do my job. I will not embarass my soldiers, I will not let my superiors down. I will have a successful mission. Failure is no option.
You may be asking yourself. Why is an Equipment Operator posting an introduction on a RANGER website.
When I joined the ARMY I followed my passion, that passion is for equipment. Anything with hydraulics I LOVE. And I feel as though everyday I love my job even more, not only because I am doing what i like. But i get to share my passion with other soldiers too. Both lower ranking, and my superiors.
I am posting this introduction, because after my deployment I am going to do EVERYTHING in my power to be released active duty. And become a soldier every day. And I would like no better but to do it in an RANGER Battallion. Because I feel even though I have a love for equipment, I can use my knowledge, even in the RANGERS.
I have busted my butt to become a better PT stud. My last Record PT test consisted of. 72 pushups, 80 situps, 13:24 2 Mile Run. For a total score of 294 points. And for me, that is not good enough. I must meet my goal of an extended score of 320 or above. I keep hearing that I will not get better at PT because of my size, and that I am hurting my body by pushing too hard now. I stand at 6'1 190 pounds. I can get better, I will get better.
So my main intentions are to fight the battle, as so many have. To be released from the National Guard. And obtain a Option 40 contract. And be on my way! I am willing to do anything to get to the batt.
My Drill SGT. Told me the sixth week of basic training, by pulling me to the side away from other soldiers. " Look Private, You have tons of potential. You Dont Win Silver You Lose Gold. Never settle for less than first place soldier. " The next day he was sent to another company. But I will never forget those words.
I am also just 23 credits away from a bachlelors degree. And if possible I am going to try and continue school overseas. So look for me as an LT at RIP possibly!!
Thanks for taking the time to read this post,

Decent intro, Specialist.
Your words sound like your motivated.....and you better be ! This is no walk in the park. Entering a Ranger Battalion is a Spec. 4 with no tab is like walking around a artillery impact area with a bulls eye painted on your back !!!!!
Go after what you want....and NEVER QUIT !
Keep us posted on your progress.

OK, By making this statement you obviously have not read a shred of the information on this site. Do some research and try to sharpen your "plan" with a little intellect. All Gold No Silver wrote:So look for me as an LT at RIP possibly!!

Thank you Rangers for your comments.
Lesson learned.
Everyday I walk around with a target on my back.
I am THAT guy. The E4 who has been chosen over his superiors to lead. That soldier, who is nineteen years old, And must make decisions. That soldier who is not afraid to stand up for his soldiers. But always knowing right from wrong.
Doing the right thing has gotten me this far. And I will continue to do the right thing everyday.
Thanks,
SPC

you may be the only SPC in your company with this attitude, or has been recognized by your leadership, but the Army is full of young, junior NCO/senior enlisted leaders.
Every damned one of the tabbed SPCs and CPLs, and most of the as-of-yet-untabbed "E-4s" in the Regiment are doing this on a daily basis. they may not be Team Leaders yet, but they are leaders, and enforce unit standards none the less.
and if you get to the Regt., they will be in your ass until you achieve and meet the standards of their Regt.
as Sliverback has said, you have some misconceptions to correct. that can be done through research. here's some more:
go talk to an active recruiter about gettting an OPT 40 coming out of the NG, and then tell us what you are going to do with that info.
