Introduction

Post by Hunter50441 »

To my superiors,
Wanted to make my introduction. Just completed enlistment at MEPS and got 79 on my ASVAB which was told wasn't bad, wanted to thank all of you for the info. Got my MoS: 11x Airborne Ranger Infantry Opt. 40 contract. Only thing I've ever wanted and realize what a challenge it is, but is only thing that's ever been an option for me. Would love to learn the skill's and leadership that you all show on and off the field. Serving our country, and protecting each other no matter what the situation. In around 6 month's or so I'm guessing I'll earn the right to wear the Ranger tab as for now I have you all to look up to. Shipout to BCT in Ft. Benning on July 17th, going to be hot I'm guessing but if I can't take the heat then I have no business being a Ranger I suppose. Been working on body, am up to 2.5 mile run in 17 min's. 50 pushup's: 2 min's, and 65 situps: 2 min's. Reading around online I realize that's not going to cut it (don't get me wrong, am not looking as req. times to meet but the time for me to beat hence Rangers Lead the Way!) but any advice would be much appreciated or if I'm basically prepared and to just keep running would appreciate any advice basically. Am 23, was a little worried about the age to be honest if I'd be at more of a disadvangtage to the 18 year olds going in. Read online post that stated most going in to become a Ranger end up dropping it and most going in for that basically don't cut it through Ranger School, really hope that isn't true. Thank you once again, and await the day to join the ranks of the 75th once I've earned it.

Welcome Hunter50441.

You mean the Scroll not the Ranger Tab. You earn the Scroll 1st and can aspire to the Ranger Tab in the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Others will be along to aid you in your transition to this site.

Sir's,
Just wanted to say thanks for the info. and correction on the badge. Scroll first, then tab my mistake. Same goes for the saluting, didn't mean anything by it just trying to be respectful as am new to this site. No intensions on quitting, isn't even an option for me. Was I off by a lot on the est. time of completing training? If so what is the avg. just curious, not wanting to sound like am wanting to rush through it. Am from IA, land of corn and hogs hehe. So, thanks again.

Rangers and DEPs,
Just posting an update, been busting myself hard rucking, running, pushups, and all that stuff. My 1st PT test is this Monday, so am going to push for it. The 2 mile in 15 something is only thing I'm hurt'n on, but have no plans of failing Monday. Will post results in reply Monday.

Be sure that you do not push yourself too much and become injured with shin spints or other soft tissue problems. It is best to gradually increase distances in your initial running, increasing the length of your runs by about 5 to 10 percent each week, running no more than three times per week. As for rucking, I advise against it unless you are already in super shape. Instead, spend your time on the days you are not running doing strength training. Check out the forum on physical training,

Rangers and DEP's,
First of all just wanted to thank Ranger Bill for all of his advise along with the rest of you, it is much appreciated. Completed 1st PT Test (practice with Specialist) earlier tonight and the results are good and bad. Pushup's: 51, Situp's 41, and 2 mile: 14:30. Overall PT score is around 210. Next scheduled test is this Sat. and can improve a lot on my pushup's and 2 mile, the situp's I'm beginning to work hard on now (crunches, shooters, flutterkicks, etc) since I thought they'd be easy since am in good shape I feel. Was wrong. So anyway, thanks again to everyone.

I was 22 when I went to RIP and was considered the "old guy". If anything I would say that you being older then the "average" should be to your advantage. Keep a very low profile (I sure wasn't good at that one) and NEVER QUIT (I know this has already been said 1,000 times on this board and for good reason, Rangers don't quit... not ever). If you are able to do those two things barring an injury you will reach your goal to wear the scroll and eventually a tab (says the tabless bitch).

Welcome to the boards and good luck on reaching your goals.

Rangers,
Don't want to start to annoy anyone and am reading the physical forums, but would anyone know with my PT score being 210 am I below avg. or? Basically just wondering what my PT should be around for entering BCT, Airborne, and/or RIP. Any advice would be helpful. Still going to keep busting myself regardless of the recommendations on scores. I don't want to reach for the req's, but set the standard. Lead by example! Just curious, thanks again as usual everyone.
