The second link is more correct, but your hands should be at the base of your head/on your neck, and your fingers shuld be interlaced. If your hands ride up on your head to towards the top, your situps may not be counted.
WE NEED MORE RANGERS!

It's not likely that your reps meet the standard, when you see the recruiter, get a PT session set up ASAP before any bad habits become uncorrectable.
The lag between signing the line and your report date can be many months so you might want to hit the rescruiter sooner, rather than later.
You're well spoken, consider the soft skill MOSs where your talents might be better used, intel analyst, medic or such.
Lots of us in the greater NYC area, btw.

Roger that Ranger K.Ingraham. I apologize for the delay in my response. I plan on speaking with a recruiter after Memorial Day as I am bogged down with work for the next couple of weeks. Would you mind if I send you a PM to discuss some of the MOS you mention, and how those would impact my quest to become a Ranger? Also, I moved out of NYC this weekend, but am still in the NY Metro area until later this summer.

Ranger IDon'tCare, Ranger K.Ingraham, Ranger Bill and other interested Rangers,
I wanted to inform you that based on your feedback I self-administered another PFT today, which I did according to the rules outlined here: http://www.physicallytrained.com/fm21-2 ... test.shtml
I made some modifications based on that document. During my previous PFTs I did not remain in the authorized rest positions for either push-ups or sit-ups, so that impacted my numbers this time. I modified my sit-up style to fingers interlaced at the upper neck/base of head, which also made them more difficult. I also switched from pull-ups to chin-ups.
My results:
Push-ups 82
Sit-ups 86
Chin-ups 23
2 mile run 12:39
I am set to meet with an Army recruiter next Thu now that work is finally calming down.
