Hello Rangers.
My name is Drew and I'm 23 years old college graduate. I am currently working in the IT sector with a defense contractor.
For the last year I have been researching a career with the Army. I have been working with my local recruiter and my current goal is to become a Ranger. The 11x option 40 contract would be ideal but from what I have read on this forum I will be ineligible for a security clearance at MEPS. Now I am researching volunteering for RIP after airborne school and the possibility of achieving a clearance then.
Thank you for providing this valuable resource.

Welcome and thanks for your desire to become a Ranger. Specifically, what makes you think you will not be eligible for a clearance? If you do not want to post it in the open, PM me.

Rangers,
I appreciate the words of welcome and I apologize for the time it has taken to respond. I was hiking over the past four days and was incommunicado.
Regarding my ineligibility for a security clearance, I was recently denied a Top Secret clearance for my current job. Though I do not have a criminal record, I told the truth about drug use during high school and college. I have been clean for over a year now but after reading the following post, viewtopic.php?t=39532&highlight=clearance it looks like it won't matter how long I have been clean to the SSO at MEPS. So my understanding is that I can enlist as an 11X Option 4 and volunteer for RIP during airborne after working with my unit SSO to hopefully get my clearance taken care of. Any advice on taking this route will be greatly appreciated.

p.s. Ranger Jim, I went to Hayfield Secondary School.
