Parents pick prayer over docs; girl dies

Post by Chiron »

WESTON, Wis. - Police are investigating an 11-year-old girl's death from an undiagnosed, treatable form of diabetes after her parents chose to pray for her rather than take her to a doctor.

An autopsy showed Madeline Neumann died Sunday of diabetic ketoacidosis, a condition that left too little insulin in her body, Everest Metro Police Chief Dan Vergin said.

She had probably been ill for about a month, suffering symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, excessive thirst, loss of appetite and weakness, the chief said Wednesday, noting that he expects to complete the investigation by Friday and forward the results to the district attorney.

If it was treatable, will the parents be charged? I think they should.

Right or wrong (to the rest of society) the religious follow their beliefs.

Jehovah Witnessess won't allow family members to have a blood tranfusion even if it means saving a relatives life - it's a NOGO in their religion.

If science discovers rubbing pig oinkment into your skin lets an individual live ten to twenty years beyond your age of living then certain religions might die off - eventually. We know at this point many religions will not follow suit - where do/does gov't draw the line what people do to save a relatives life or even extend it?

I feel sorry for the kid, but if people are going to be that ignorant and closed minded, they shouldn't be able to influence the next generation in their stupidity.

You know how she is, the only shoes I'll find are the plexiglass ones with the fish in them. She still likes to go back over to the other team while I'm gone. It does make for good videos though.

I guess I'm the only one who found that pun funny.

Isn't the religion that does this called Christian Science? Not rubbing pig oinkment on them selves, but stick to healing through faith/prayer.

An 18 month old baby died this week in Portland of a easily treatable, bacterial infection (a cold). In Oregon, it's against the law to withhold medical treatment from a minor that will save their life. The parents now reside in the County Jail while they await trial!

My religious beliefs, misdirected anger and general intolerance of everyone who doesn’t immediately agree with me notwithstanding, this sort of shite makes my blood boil.
