Introduction

Post by JWStL »

Rangers,
Hello and thank you for having me as a guest of your site. My name is Josh and I am 22 years old. In less than a week I will be receiving my bachelor's degree in business management from Arizona State University. My aspirations for wanting to join the military are rooted back as far as I can remember, emphasizing on being part of the U.S. Army. Although I am not yet a DEP, I am in negotiation with a recruiter. Currently, my goal is to sign an 11b option 40 and leave somewhere around April 08'. I have joined this site in effort to achieve the highest level of preparation before I leave for basic. Thank you.

Welcome to the site and congratulations on (almost) receiving your degree. Thanks for your desire to serve with the US Army Rangers.
It seems you want to leave fairly quickly. What is your level of physical preparedness? Please administer yourself an Army PT test (2 minute pushup, 2 minute situp, 2 mile run and pullups) and post your results here please.

Ranger RTO,
Currently I am training in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu four days a week and incorporating weight training an additional three to four days. As soon as school is finished I will begin a very specific training regiment which will start to focus more on endurance. Right now I work at a gym and have recently purchased a membership at the local YMCA to utilize their indoor pool. I realize I am no where near the kind of shape ill need to be in to excel through RIP, but I feel four months will give me plenty of time to prepare. As for leaving so soon, this is a decision that I have wanted to make for a very long time and rather than sit around wasting time I feel I need to pursue it. As for the PT test, I will administer it within the next 48 hours and post the results. Thank you for your response.

Ranger Jim,
I apologize not taking the time to more thoroughly proof read my posts. In regards to the task you have asked me to complete, is there any particular format you would like to see it written in? Also, where would you like it posted? Please let me know. Thank you.[/code]

Glad you asked. There is no format. Plain English will suffice --250 words or less. Post on this thread. Proofread is one word.

Ranger Jim,
There are many reasons why I desire to serve in the 75th Ranger Regiment. In the most basic terms, I want to serve my country as part of one of the most high-speed units in the military. Taking it a step further, I am the kind of person that has always looked to achieve at the highest level. I see the Ranger Regiment as the group that sets the bar. In addition, being part of the SOF community is a feat, which I have wanted to accomplish my entire life. In a few days, I will be graduating from college. The typical next step would be to go into the labor force and start the first day of the rest of my life. In my mind, I am a healthy, educated, able-bodied citizen who has the opportunity to stand up for what I believe in. Staring me right in the face is the opportunity that I have been waiting for my entire life. In all honesty, I don’t know if this is something I want to do for the next twenty years. However, I do know that if I don’t do this now, I will regret the decision for the rest of my life.

I hope this answers your question.

Don't start with that super secret squirrel Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu BS, NOTHING TAKES THE PLACE OF PLAIN OLD FASHIONED CALLESTINECTS, i.e. PUSHUP'S, PULLUP'S, SITUPS, RUNNING........Followed by more pushups etc.

If you're gonna push weight go for endurance like you indicated, but do not I REPEAT DO NOT forget about the basics because its those muscle groups that will carry you forward. Physical preparedness is of utmost importance but what is equally important is the mental toughness you will need to have in order to accomplish your stated GOAL. Just remember that its MIND OVER MATTER......... you make it to RIP and your mind will be messed with, heck it will be before you even reach RIP cause the closer you get to RIP the more you'll start to hear from others why they QUIT before even gettin to the party and the quitters will be trying to convince you to do the same..........mark my words because it will happen.

Good luck to you young stud. Hopefully in 12 months we'll see you back on this forum having told us you graduated RIP.

DO IT, MAKE IT, EXPERIENCE IT and MAKE OUR COUNTRY PROUD.............BECAUSE IT’S FUCKIN WORTH IT!!!

Josh, I could not have said it better.

Now, please self-administer a PT test and tell us how you performed. Then we'll see what you need to do to improve your performance.
