AL GORE: WHY THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE?

AL GORE: WHY THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE?
Is it just me? Why in the world did Al Gore win the Nobel Peace Prize?
Seems like there were a lot of other people in the running for that award that did a lot more for the likes of world peace....
Like the woman who saved 2500 children from the houlocaust for example.
I don't know if I even believe in Global Warming for one, but my question is really this:
Even if Global Warming does exist (which many scientists argue that it does not exist) what in the hell does it have to do with world peace?
Was this prestigeous award just given to him to try and encourage him to enter the '08 presidential race?
...your thoughts...

I was looking at the thread about LT Murphy being awarded the MOH the same day I heard the headline you just posted about.
While I am VERY proud of LT Murphy, I have little use for Al Gore. Now I wonder when they will start handing out the MOH as a political favor, too. I believe the Nobel peace prize is tarnished.
I'd still rather see Gore in the White house than any of the other Democratic Party's hopefuls, but I doubt he'll run. He didn't like the taste of defeat the first time.

Here's the official responce from the Nobel committee....GMONEY wrote:Why in the world did Al Gore win the Nobel Peace Prize?

The accolade was established in 1901 with the remit that it should reward the "person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses".
This year's choice risked controversy by widening the remit to include climate change, arguing that the crisis had the potential to increase the risk of violent conflicts and wars. The committee split the prize between Mr Gore and the UN team of scientists, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Of Mr Gore, it said: "He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted."
The way I look at it, we DID have an 'Ice Age' several thousand years ago. It now appears that the pendulum may be swinging the other way.
The way I see it, why waste time fighting or denying it may happen? It sure may happen. If it does, the concequences may be horrific and have lasting concequences for a few thousand years till it stabalizes for a few thousand years and then we have another Ice Age several thousand years after that.
I would hate to see my great-grandchilden and great-great grandchilden and beyond get royally screwed by this and if there are things we can do to ease the suffering they may face now, I'm ok with that.
Good on him. More power to him
& I do not believe he will run for President at this time.
Just thought of this.....
I haven't read this or seen this posted anywhere. Maybe it's out there somewhere (I haven't really taken the time to study global warming) but this thought just occoured to me as I made my previous post.
Something to chew on:
What if the Earth has already been through a cycle of global warming? What if the biblical accounts of Noah and the ark he built and the worldwide flooding were really an account of the Worlds first global warming?
It got hot, Ice caps melted, whole frickin' world flooded except for one man who planned for the changes happening around him and responded by building for his own (and eventually all of humanities) very survival?

I don’t understand why and it doesn’t matter to me. However, I have heard that the goal was to push Al Gore into the Presidential race. I feel that there are those in the left that fear Hillary and the result of her becoming President.
If you ask me, the Nobel Prize is over rated. In the past no but over the last few decades some people have won that I feel shouldn’t have. Strictly a matter of opinion and there are many that feel the opposite.
Regarding Al Gore's Nobel Prize I don’t think he is worthy of it at least not in the sense of “peaceâ€

This is what I believe. I think the Earth is on a hot/cold cycle, but the time span between the extreme ends of the cycle is so far apart we just have not lived long enough to even notice it. It falls in line with desalination and polar shift. I think it's happened before, just long before "us". We'll survive, we always do. The only thing that might kill us off is the Earth moving away from the Sun, and causing the Earth's core temp to drop a few degrees.RTO wrote: Something to chew on:

Now, for anyone interested in crazy theories like polar shift, the Mayan calendar ends on next year's winter solstice, which also happens to be a massive planetary alignment. Polar shift time, who knows? I might go visit my Dad in the West Virginian mountains, just in case.

I like the way you said that! I agree!Old Grunt wrote:Unlike the other Nobel Prizes, the "Peace" prize is meaningless IMO. Look at some of the previous recipients such as Yassir Arafat, Le Duc Tho, and Kofi Anan.
Global warming is a fact. It has been occurring since the solar system was formed. It is caused by a number of factors and occurs not just here but on every other planet in our system, to one degree or another.
Gore and the lefties, however, have substituted "global warming" for " anthropogenic global warming", which means that man is the primary factor causing said warming. There is little, if any, evidence to back this up.
Gore is nothing but a huckster using this as a means to keep himself in the limelight and make a buck at the same time.
Just for example, the posts above have highlighted Gore's profligate use on energy, and his "excuse" is that he pays for "carbon offsets". That is, he gives money to a company which invests it in alternative energy sources.
But what Gore doesn't say is that he is the founder and chairman of the board of that energy company. He is, in effect, just taking the money out of one pocket and putting it in another.
When the IPCC, or any other scientific body, can demonstrate to me that anthropogenic force is the determinant factor in global warming, I'll happily vote for whatever legislation is needed.
But until then, I'm not ready to thaw my Mom out of her cabin in Ellijay every December for the family Christmas party just so Big Al can roam around the world on a Gulfstream and get BJ's from the Dixie Chicks.

Ok, For as long as I have been alive the summers have gotten hotter and winters are hardly winters.
A million motherfuckers pray to some type of God everyday yet they have never seen said God with their own eyes. It is their faith and the question what if there is a heaven that drives them to cover their asses if there is a hell too.
I find it hard to believe that people can be so fucking stupid to side with a political party that doesn't believe in global warming just because it limits big business making money...................
Why not do the right things just in case there is a God and he has turned on the heat lamp?

I think global warming is a natural occurrence! Besides...buying carbon credits while jetting around the world is just bad form. We should save all our carbon credits for future invasions.RRDTm3 wrote:Ok, For as long as I have been alive the summers have gotten hotter and winters are hardly winters.
