My little pop gun

Post by GSXRanger »

Gentlemen... and I use that term very loosely in this bunch...

Sorry I haven't been on much. Been very VERY busy with my new assignment. I just wanted to add a picture of my little baby rifle... all dressed up. This thing is a shooter!

I added a Volquartsen Match Hammer, Extractor, 20 inch barrel, Barracuda Laminated Stock, Bushnell Banner 4x12x40 scope, Leupold base and rings, Harris bipods... and this thing shoots 1/2 groups at 100 yards easily.

Standard Velocity or Sub Sonic rounds only. Hi Velocity makes it print all over the paper.

The trigger breaks at a clean 2 pounds... but the rifle is so light, that it is very hard to hold still. My best groups were off of some nice sand bags...

I am going shooting with it on Saturday. I will post some pictures of some good groups, as long as the wind behaves...

Cheers!!

This is the 100 yard grouping that I fired last time I went to the range with it. This is about 50 rounds of Remington Hi Velocity Yellow Jacket ammo. With Sub Sonic, or Target rounds, it groups even tighter... as long as the wind is good to go.

My rifle seems to like 40 grain Sub Sonic best.

38 grain Standard Velocity Target runs good as well. Not bad for a .22 LR, and it's cheap as snot to shoot.

Cool little rifle.

I can't wait until my son is old enough to get *him* something like that. :)

He just got his first BB gun this past weekend. He hasn't got the reach for a rifle, even a small one, yet

You see brother... I am secure enough with my lack of a package, that I sport this little pop gun proudly. Hell, I can't do anything about my lack of game... so, I just made peace with it.

No, those things need to get out more. Seriously, nice weapon. I think I'm gonna pick up a 223 when I go on vacation. I have a pretty sweet 22LR that I retired Marine MSG gave me for building him a fish tank stand. No optics, but it's an very accurate piece.

Ok, update on the pop gun.

So far, I have fired over 1500 rounds through it. It is a PAIN IN THE MUTHAFUKKIN ARSE to clean... but, I clean it, none the less.

The Bushnell Banner, 4x12x40 is an EXCELLENT scope for a rimfire at 50-100 yards. This scope cost me 75 bucks, mounted in Leupold rings and base, and it just flat works. Duplex reticle is all I need for target shooting... and it holds it's zero. Good clear glass for the money... for a rimfire.

The sucky part of this rifle, is the trigger. It's cheap. I stoned the original hammer, and made it better... but I put the Volquartsen hammer in after a bit of dremmel work, and it is MUCH better. Breaks on my Lymann digital guage at 2.65 pounds, with just a HINT of creep.

So far, this gun likes the CCI Standard Velocity Target the best... groups nicely at 40 yards, opens up a bit at 50... and is still respectable at 100. Although IMHO, the .22 LR is out past it's limit as far as precision accuracy at 100 yards.

Here is my ugly ass at the Range this saturday... shooting at 40 yards...

Here is the HH6 behind the "little stick"...

Here is my best 5 shot group with CCI Standard Velocity at 40 yards... little to no wind, and heavy humidity...

Various 5 shout groups with various Ammo...

Rapid fire from rest... torso target

All in all, this is a nice shooting little .22 long rifle.

It's not as "sweet" as some of the custom Ruger 10/22's... but then again, it's half the cost of the custom stuff... and shoots well.

All in all, I say I have about $450 tied up in it.
