I have a History degree also. I would recommend going back several years and begin at the advent of organized military operations.

38 is a bit old for starting out in SOF but you're not too old to make a valid contribution in a CA or psyops or other service outfit.

Damn straight 38 is old for the military! I was in the Navy for 6 years & was out for a WHOLE fuckin' number of years. Went in the Army in my mid-30s. I lasted for another 21 years. Even in my last years I aced the PT test BUT: it got harder each year. I doubt you'd be able to go into any SpecOps unit. I applied for Air Assault School when I was 38. No go, too old , application denied. Glad I went to SCUBA in the Navy & BAC when I was young enough!

I believe the Army is recruiting up to age 42. I don't know how you'd get your 20 in before age 60 though unless they upped the retirement age to 62.
