Wow
That was pretty close, worse thing I ever had is when myself and another guy were testing the min arming distance of a 203 round. (very stupid in retrospect)

We were check-firing our weapons in Kandahar before punching out. One of the 18B's let a 40mm 203 round loose, and it struck the berm, came back and hit him in the right shin. Knocked him to the ground, but did not go off. He damn near broke his Tib / Fib.
Weirdest thing I have ever seen... had to blow it in place.

I sorta had the same thing happen my friend and I were shooting in the open trunk of an old Ford Mavrick.
He had a 10/22 and I had a AR-15.
Long story short one of his 22 rds ricocheted and went in my arm 1/4".
I was 15 and I knew my Mom would freak out so we pulled out the mushroomed round and cleaned and bandaged it up.
That guy is freaking lucky it didnt hit him in the head.
