Introduction
Hello all! My name is Justin (22) and I'm looking to join the Army. I've been working out the past 2 months, with some progress, but no where close to what I need.
When I started out, I weighed 248, 68 inches tall, 36% body fat, couldn't run a quarter mile without stopping for a breather, could only do 3 pushups, and maybe 7 situps... Now, I'm at 228, 29% body fat, am running 3 miles in just under 40 minutes, am doing 25 pushups, and 23 situps. All of that is good for me, but not where I want to be to do the things I'm wanting. I'm still needing to lose weight (quickly) so that I can get to 26% body fat, of course increase my run time and endurance now, and my pu and su are good to get in (but not to complete BCT or AIT...yet). Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!
I's taken me 5 years to figure it out, but I finally have decided I wanted to join the military, and the Army presented me the best options, not to mention the fact I have been around the Army my whole life and am basically an Army brat, so it seemed it was just natural. I haven't decided for sure on an MOS yet. I want 31B, but that seems to be closed, and there are plenty of others I want too, like 11C, 13B, 14T, 18B, and a few others I'm looking at. I have a long way to go obviously if I want 18B or to be a Ranger, both of which I'm wanting, especially to be a Ranger. I've pretty much figured out what I want to do, it's the figuring out how to get there. I know when I'm done with BCT & AIT, I'm wanting to go to Airborne school, then hopefully Ranger school after that (I love the title of Airborne Ranger). I'm in a constant training mode because I know I have a long way to go to do this all. After a few years, I will be looking at becoming a Warrant officer and attend Aviation school. And from there, guess I will just see. Still piecing it all together, but first I need to join! Steadily getting there, and I know I can and will do it.
I'm glad I found this site!

If you want to go warrant, I would suggest dropping a packet as a civilian. You will board and find out if you get selected before you sign any paperwork or contracts.
Also, this is my opinion to anyone who joins the military, and it is screw the recruiter, tell him what you want, if he won't give it to you, leave. Don't sign up 4+ years of your life unless you are POSITIVE you want to do the job you are signing up for. Dealing with a recruiter can be similar to bartering at a third world country marketplace...
Im not important on this board, and I am sure some Aviation people will be around to give you guidance.

Welcome.
My most embarrassing moment as a Drill Sergeant was on one of our zero day pickups (the first day of basic). I had an overweight kid who was struggling to keep up with a front-back-go session. He was around 200-225. I walked up to him, and asked him "What in the f@*k are you thinking, joining the Army in such pitiful shape during a time when our Nation was at war?" He nervously glanced sideways at me, and said "Drill Sergeant, I lost over 50 pounds to be able to join."
I knew right then that he would be successful, because he had internal drive and needed no motivation from me, although I didn't say it to him - it woulda sounded like a compliment.
Losing 10% of body weight in two months is significant. All you need is to define your goals, and I'm confident you'll be able to reach them.
Good luck.

Fuck dude, your intro got me tired. It's all over the fucking place. I wanna do this, or maybe this, or even this...... Shit, I need to sit down.
Good job on losing some weight, keep at it. Pick a path and stay with it. If you want to make the attempt to be in the Ranger Regiment, then sign the contract with option 40. You do NOT want to be a 13B (pull string, go Boom). But that's me giving you what I already know.
11B, 11C, 13F
As for "Loving" the title of "Airborne Ranger", there is only one place in the world where you can be that. The 75th Ranger Regiment. Choose you Option 40 contract and keep pushing yourself.
Welcome to the site dough boy.

Rangers, I figured since he was talking about 31B I would jump in for a second. If there is anything wrong with that let me know and I will fix it.
Jubru, like any other MOS, be sure you want to be an MP before you sign the papers. Be sure you want to deploy, because I can promise from my own experience you WILL deploy. Ive got a 5 year initial enlistment contract (minimum for 31B), I am not on into my 3rd year yet, and I am in Iraq, for the second time.
Im not sure about the deployment rates for the other MOS's you mentioned, but I know for a fact 31Bs have a heavy call over in the desert right now.
As for what avidwanderer said, Fuck the recruiter. Find out what you want, and get it.

Thanks for the advice & motivation everyone!
My train of thought when writing that wasn't too clear, so sorry about the jumpiness, etc...
There are 2 things I have looked at as a career for myself - the military and the police. So if I have the opportunity to combine them, I'm more likely going to take it.
And call me crazy, but I want to deploy.
What should I pm inbound about and how do I find him?

Everyone stand fast for a moment. Let's just try to figure what's going on.
Jubru, You need to figure what MOS you want to work. If you have MP-specific questions send a Personal Message (PM) to 31B_soldier.
If you have other general questions, you need to use the search feature. Most of the questions anyone can think of have already been answered at least once. Save yourself time and trouble by actually doing your own research. Some of the other Rangers are not as patient and forgiving as I am.
...and now back to our regularly scheduled mayhem.
