Ok, I hauled a buddy of mine to the range with me today. He reloaded mags for me, as I blasted through them. I ran a total of 315 rounds through it. 300 FMG (230 grain ball, unknown brand... they were bought at a gun show) and 15 Hydra-Shoks (230 Grain).
The gun functioned perfectly. The only malfunctions I had, were three times.. shooting in rapid succession, my big meat hooks inadvertently locked the slide to the rear mid magazine. This happened three times, early on.
I was using a "thumbs forward" grip, really chocking up on the gun, the way I hold my 1911. I figured out what I was doing, and corrected it, the gun ran fine. No FTF, No FTE, and it gobbled them up as fast as I could pull the trigger.
I shot it upside down, I limp wristed the ting, even shot it left handed... no failures to go bang. I did not clean the gun, and the front sight got very dirty. I did some 7 yard drills, 15 yard drills, and some 25 yard drills. I was not shooting for tight groups, I was picking up the sights as fast as I could, and firing controlled pairs at the target, center mass, point of aim.
My assessment is, with stock sights, this gun prints just a bit low and to the left. Sights are next on my list of things to change.
Recoil pulse is a bit noticable, which makes the second shot in a controlled pair, a bit of a ***** to keep on target. I would not want to compete with this gun for time, but.. it is a brilliant defensive gun.
So, here are a few pictures...
My buddy Bruce firing my G36. He ran several mags through it, and although he said he can't hit crap with hit, he liked it. It went BOOM every time for him.
Me doing some controlled pairs...
Me doing a semi fast mag change... we could not "present" from a holster, nor could I wear my mag pouch. I had to reach for the mag on the table, which threw me off a bit. Fast mag changes are gonna need to be worked with on this gun. The Pearce Grips +1 extension gave me no trouble. All mags were filled to 7 rounds, every time. Not one issue.
Here is a 25 yard target. I did not shoot for accuracy, I went center mass, controlled pairs. I wanted to see how it shot out to 25 yards on an indoor range. Very well, for a small defensive gun. Ignore the head shots, that was Bruce with his 1911, not my G36.
Here is a 15 yard target. This was the 15 rounds of 230 grain Hydra-Shoks. I aimed center mass of the orange square, and I feel the rounds printed low left.
I love this little gun!!
Now to get some Big Dot sights and some good leather.
Cheers,
