I realize my pushups and 2mile are weak. I am going to start doing the Push-Up Improvement workout in the PT section. I only got to run once last week, and so this 2-mile time is basically my second run since I started working out, so I should have no problem improving the time. I talked with my buddy who is an 11A down at Fort Benning (Found out he wasn't a Ranger, he said you have to be a 1Lt. before you can goto Ranger School if your an officer.) He suggested that I could join relatively soon, and that Basic and Airborne School would take me to where I needed to be phyiscally. Looking at my PT scores, what do you Rangers think? I have no civilian things tying me down, and im basically ready to sign up as soon as I feel comfortable.
No - basic and BAC will NOT get you to where you need to be. Do not take PT advice (or any other fucking advice) from a 2LT. That's like taking advice from a nun on how to be a prostitute.

Basic training and BAC will bring you up to the minimum acceptable Army standard, based on where you are now. You need to double your pushups and run 3 miles in the time you posted for a 2 mile run.

Additionally, you need to put a ruck on your back (start with 30-35 lbs) and walk in good hiking boots, no tennis shoes or sneakers. If your feet get jacked up, then do squats with the ruck until they heal.

You will find loads of PT advice using the search button.

Did you seriously post this run time? Are you jerking us around or something? You havn't got a chance in hell of becoming an Army Ranger and I suggest you stop wasting our time on this board. If you can't run at least 14 minutes right now or are excessively fat and can lose at least 20 pounds, you will not gain the speed you need to even have a chance.

You may be able to get the pushups to the minimum 65 needed but forget increasing your run by over 5 minutes. I am just trying to help you here, forget your so called dreams of becoming an Army Ranger. The Army needs all types of soldiers in all types jobs right now and I suggest you look into one of them. There is honor in serving your country no matter where you serve. If you take an Option 40 you will only be wasting someone elses slot. You will not gain the kind of speed and endurance you need to become a Ranger in Basic or Airborne and will only wash out of RIP. Remember RIP is just the selection phase, Battalion is a whole different beast all together.

Think hard about this before you sign up.

You know, I have been out of the Army since 1989 and I am 44 now. I just wanted to see how much I had lost since then, so I gave myself a PT test to see where I stood.
84 pushups
79 sit-ups
11:48 -2 miles.
My last test in the Army was
94 push-ups
88 sit-ups
10:26 -2 miles.
So when I see these young 18-25 year olds who do half of that or worse, it makes me sick. Anyone else feel that way?

I think it is all the co-ed badmitton they do in school these days and call it PE.... When I was in high school the boys did their own gym class and the girls did their own thing on the other side of school.

All four years of high school my instructor was Kirby W. Smith, former Marine Corp Drill Instructor. (still remember his name and the thought of him strikes fear in my heart after 28 years! ) Any day in gym class was like a boot camp scene from the movie "Full Metal Jacket"

I know what you mean,
My gym teacher was our high school football coach and former Marine also.
He had everyone scared, Principal, teachers, and opposing coaches.

Stop and rest ! are you shittin me?
I don't care if you have'nt run in 20 years that is pathetic.
My wife runs 5 miles every night trying to lose weight. So when I think of skipping a workout because I am tired, I watch her come home from work at 9:00 pm, get a small bite to eat and then hit the track, I feel ashamed for even thinking that.
How old are you anyway?

Your buddy is obviously speaking from his vast experience (NONE!!!) , there is no way that you will improve a run time that is that slow in basic and jump school. You need to get your ass off of the internet and hit the road and run as fast and as far as you can, and then run some more. I doubt that the Army would even take you with a run time that slow, I have roadmarched 2 miles faster than that.

My time is alittle deceiving, I couldn't run non-stop the entire two miles. I ran the first mile in 7:45, then walked 1/4 mile (after I did it I wish I hadn't because I probably only needed about 15-20 seconds to catch my breathe), then finished the 3/4 mile droping to a walk only once for about 20 seconds. This is only my second time to run in six years. But I realize I didn't push myself hard enough if I didn't puke. I am just now starting to train. I know I can shave it down, I just need acouple weeks of running.
Hang up being a Ranger, kid...If you can't run 2 continuous miles without taking 2 breaks...  and 7:45 is NOT an impressive first mile. What are you going to do when you have a squad leader that LOVES to run fast -(like 6:00 to 6:30 pace for 8 miles)???
In the Rangers, it's not a 2 mile run/walk...It is a run...If you walk....you would get stoned!!!

Good luck in the Air Force...

Listen carefully. So far you have come across like a complete tool. If you would sit down and read the FAQs, stickies and posts from the membership correcting you, as well as the PM sent to you by the senior DEP, you would make everything a lot easier.

Your Ranger friend doesn't exist. Your Lieutenant friend has no clue what he is talking about either. There are only so many Rangers who have gone to the SEAL teams and I highly doubt the friend you are scared to death of is legit.

You have a great amount of invaluable resource here at your disposal, yet you choose to ignore it and instead continue to act like a little kid. This site was never about helping you or anyone else out who isn't a member of our Brotherhood. However, when we see potential in a young man searching for answers in his journey ahead, we tend to take him under our wing and work with him. There are about two dozen boys who came on here over the last couple years I have been here, who have earned their way into the ranks of the Regiment and not only become Men in the process, but US Army Rangers. They are now fighting in the Global War on Terror, bringing the enemy his worst nightmare.

ALL OF THEM WORKED TO GET THERE!

If you think you are going to cut it by giving up on yourself, known in our community as "quitting, being a bitch, fast tracking to leg land", then understand that you are going to fail at everything you do. Nobody here cares about you running your mouth, because actions speak louder than words. Walking a 1/4 mile on a 2 mile run? That is pathetic.

I suggest that if you really want to become a Ranger, you begin listening instead of talking. This is known as "shutting the fuck up" since you have nothing of value to tell us and everything to learn.

Quit being a little bitch, pull your tampon out of your ass, tie your running shoes to your feet and start running. If you need examples of workout plans, start searching.

BTW, this is your final warning. If you still don't get it and therefore waste my time, I will ban you.
