Since then I have graduated Basic and AIT. I was lied to in Basic about going to Airborne or Ranger. I was told that because I was a 56M Chaplain Assistant, there was no way that I could get an Airborne slot much less a Ranger slot. That pretty much deflated me. I really wanted both. But the good Lord kept an eye out for me. My first station is at Ft. Benning with the 4th RTB. I am now Cpt. Streucker's (I pray I am not butchering his name) Chaplain Assistant. I complete inprocessing today and have already been told that I can go Airborne and Ranger as soon as the other Chaplain Assistant gets back from his slots. So, technically I am not a DEP, but I am a DEP into the Ranger School, so I updated my introduction here vs. writing a new one in the Ranger section. I may wear the tan beret, but I am not tabbed, therefore I don't consider (and rightfully so) myself a full Ranger. I do get ten days permissive TDY starting tomorrow though, so I hope to get a glimpse of the Best Ranger Competition this year.
Are you already wearing a beret?

Waiting for an answer........
Sorry for the delay in answering Ranger Cams, I have been without internet access.

Yes, I am already wearing a beret. That is the first thing my sponsor told me get. All to hide my cherriness.

Welcome to the Ranger community young CA. Now pay attention to the mentoring of CH Strueker. He will square you away.

If you get a Ranger assignment, keep up informed. Who knows you and I may cross paths one day and work together as a Unit Ministry Team (UMT).

Keep the faith and stay focus on the details. Also, maintain a spirit of excellence in all that you do. Us chaplains need Chaplain Assistants (CAs) who are technically and tactically proficient to protect our hides. Your first priority is to be a Soldier then a minister amongst the ranks. Personally I would much rather have a CA who knows how to Soldier then one who is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on theology or religion. Chaplains are required to obtain a M-Div. in these areas not CAs. Of course a “both andâ€
