Ranger Jim,
I don't believe there was ever a group of men who left behind a legacy such as the members of the 75th Ranger Regiment that could ever be considered has beens. The Rangers of D-Day may have been forgotten by some but to this day we are benefiting from their scrafices.
What I meant was, I would be honoured to walk in your path and can only hope that one day I can Ranger half as good as yourself.
Well, now, I have never served in the 75th Ranger Regiment. The Regiment did not exist during WWII. But since you bring it up, please take a look at the history of Army Rangers in Wikipedia and tell me why you would like to be one of us in 25 - 50 words. I'd like to see a response in the next 24 hours.

Ranger, rangerrg_c75
I take pride in anything I do, however minuscule the task is to my daily life. The problem is that I don't value these things; things which other people see valuable I have no value for at all. For example I'm on track to finish my college degree in a little over 2 years; I take pride in doing my schoolwork and I take pride in going to school but obtaining this degree means absolutely nothing to me. I think I grew up in a generation where inmate objects are cherished most and people tend to put family, relationships, and other things on the backtrack. No matter how stupid it sounds, I long for something that actually holds some type of non-material value. By reading the posts made by Rangers on this board and hearing about their actions I can see the pride that you take in being Rangers. This type of pride cannot be fabricated through bullshit; only sweat and tears.

I was reading the post by Ranger Jim how said Ranger and other Rangers tracked down and confronted a poser in his home. In what other organization would you find a person willing to do something like that on their own time. People in this country don't value a fucking thing except money and stupidity. I'm am humbled by the fact that men like you still exist; Rangers.

Thank you for your service!

Ranger Jim, I've got some work to do but will get to reading now and post a reply as soon as I can (tomorrow morning at the latest).

Ranger Jim,
Throughout our nation’s history and that of other nations we can see that there are two types of men. Those that want to sit and hope everything turns out their way and those that want to do something about it. Rangers are innovators, responsible for the first American military manual. Time and time again Rangers were called out of the background to perform their duties and proved themselves beyond expectations. Lastly Rangers are volunteers, they willingly put themselves in harm’s way so something can be done even though they could easily sit on their ass and hope everything goes their way. These qualities are hard to come by and hard to find. But you, Rangers, possess them and I wish to one day be a part of this proud community.

I've got a question about Ranger history... how come the Ranger BN's were constantly being deactivated and put on the backtrack? Did the Army think that Ranger tactics were not valuable in tomorrow's battlefield?

The real issue is that Ranger units are expensive to train, equip and sustain. Following the Korean War, the Ranger traditions were maintained by the Ranger Department (today's Ranger Training Brigade). The lineage was assigned to Special Forces. My personal observation is that there are not enough good men to go around; and during that period, the priority of efforts was to be prepared to fight the Soviets in conventional heavy battle on the plains of Europe.

There is no magic: the Tab is a school; the scroll is a way of life.

You get a go for your essay. As I said, if you truly want to serve in the 75th Ranger Regiment, you came to the right place. However, I caution you that you need to do a lot more PT. Hopefully, by now the DEPs should have contacted you. Eyes and ears open mouth shut -- learn. Never, never quit!!!

Just a little update on the PT:

Sit-Ups: 91

2 Mile run: Consistently in sub 13 range without feeling I'm about to shit myself.

5 Mile run: 35:40.

Most disappointing of it all my...

Push-Ups: 41. I was able to do more before but thanks to this site I found out I was doing them like a cunt... was only able to do about 20 proper one's which after roughly a month I got that up to the stated number.

1 more month till shipping. Will post another update... in the meantime I'll keep reading and PTing my fucking ass off.

Your run times are looking good. But it doesnt matter if you can get 100 points from the run and the sit up portion of the PT test. Ranger standard (minimum) is 80% in EACH event. If you do not get 80% of the points in the push up portion you will not pas RIP and you will not meet your goal.

Do enough running and SUs to sustain but you have to focus more on your lack of a chest. Do push ups bitch and dont forget about one for the airborne ranger in the sky.

Ranger Dafid Ranger,
I will try what you've suggested. Currently I'm doing 1 day on 1 day off. I've always been told that if you do not allow your muscles to recover you will never see any positive growth. I will report on progress in 2 weeks. I've already started today... every hour I drop and do 25 properly performed push-ups. Will probably end up doing around 350 or so a day as I'll squeeze in some more at night whilst watching the shit box.

Thanks for the advice.

Ranger Bravo57,
PM sent. Good to know this city isn't all ridden with fuck-ups and hippies.

Speak for yourself jackass. I came up here for a job. You most likely hang out near where the Cubs play.

Ranger Bravo57,

I'm a Sox fan. I've been to the Wrigleyville area three times in my life; that was punishment enough. The again, maybe it's just the college atmosphere that I have to indulge in on a daily basis. On that note, at least I've figured out how you get a PhD and tenure in any field; specify why the fuckers we are fighting are heroes and we are the villains. WE actually had a protest on campus where one of the guest speakers was part of a domestic terrorism group and actually orchestrated attacks against Soldiers. That was a fun day.

Just another quick update:

Graduated college today; with distinction. PT is going well... my push-ups are improving (thank you Ranger Dafid Ranger!) and I'm maintaining the other scores. Little over 15 days to go till I leave.
