OCS and Contract for Ranger School
RM,
You have gained some good insights on what is important in life. If armyranger.com serves no other mission than to enable a few young men to better prepare themselves for life, we are a complete success. Attending Benning School for Boys will allow you that opportunity -- and a couple years in one of the Ranger battalions will be invaluable. As the man in the kilt is otherwise occupied, I'll take it upon myself to tell you to STFU and start pushing...

I don't give a goddamn what kind of hat or uniform bling you wear. A great Army Officer has nothing do with that. True, the elite seek out elite training but not to further careers. They do it to become the best, to give the men the professionalism and proficiency they deserve out of a leader. Their schooling is a reflection of themselves not the other way around. That is completely internal. A man's past experience is only is good as the internal discipline, drive, and honor which dictate and permeate everything he does. Don't go to RIP with the intention of becoming an officer later. Go to RIP to be a fucking Ranger. Don't go to OCS with the intention of becoming a 75th PL go with the intention of leading men. The experience of being in Batt would be good as those who I have seen come through that route have a lot to offer. I have also seen a lot of studs hit the ground running and turn out to be stellar. I have also seen some brokedick, shamming, lazy motherfuckers wear all the scare badges in the world. Be the man, not the fucking jewelry. Good luck stud and I wish you the best. Get ready for a great journey. Dig deep and find out what you are. All of this will only be as good as what YOU put into it!!!I have concluded is necessary to become a great U.S. Army Officer by going the 11x Option 40 route.
Just my .02 since about 18 months ago I was where you are now.

Well, now RM, the day has finally arrived. Please sit down and discuss what you have achieved through your tenure at armyranger.com. Make it more than 250 words and post it in the Mosh Pit so that it gets a little exposure.RenaissanceMan wrote:Rangers, Veterans, and Members of the board:

Rangers, veterans, and members of the board:
Sitrep: Less than 24 hours prior to my report time (which was the 8th), I was notified by my recruiter that the liason at MEPS had made a mistake when she qualified me for my Airborne/Option 40 contract. I was told that I was not qualified because the medical waiver that approved my enlistment precluded me from getting Airborne guraunteed in my contract. The medical waiver was needed for a session I had once with a social worker 12 years ago after the death of my grandfather. I had and have had absolutely no medical problems or mental health history. This was when I was 17 and was ordered by my family doctor as a normal procedure. That doctor has since written a note for my enlistment that it was a 'perfectly normal period of despondancy following the death of his grandfather'. I recently completed my graduate program studies and have fully prepared myself physically for Ranger Indoctrination. Unfortunately, it appears I will not be granted the opportunity to go to RIP.
This notification came a month after I signed the contract and less than 24 hours before I was to report and ship to Fort Benning. After a day or so of doing my best to get my bearings and my head around the disappointment of being denied the opportunity to serve as a US Army Ranger, I was notified that I would be able to get airborne once I was enlisted, but that it just couldn't be guraunteed in my contract. Having researched this site for about two years, I smelled something funny. I was told by another recruiter that, in fact, I can get airborne qualified before I seek out Special Forces selection (which was always a goal for later in my military career). I re-negotiated and signed another contract so that my waiver would not be withdrawn (and allow me to negotiate further later if I chose). I signed for 96b, which I am told will allow me to pursue Ranger School and Special Forces Selection after my training. I was also told by another recruiter that I can get the opportunity to go to RIP after my first contract expires. From researching this site, I know this is absolutely not true.
Rangers, my concern is this: My report date is the 22nd now. As an intel analyst, I am concerned that my chances to be granted an opportunity to earn the Ranger Tab at Ranger School will be very limited. I am also concerned that I will not be serving the best interests of the US Army by not pursuing the combat MOS that I wanted. I considered Cav Scout, but did not want to have to wait again for a longer period of time to report (I had quit my job in preparation for my original departure date, which was Feburary 8. I want to serve Ranger more than anything else. It is a difficult pill for me to swallow that I will not be granted the opportunity to go to RIP, but it appears to be the reality nonetheless. Therefore, if this is indeed the situation at hand, if this is not renegotiable, I will put 110% into my job as an intel analyst and earn my chance at Ranger School, and later prove I am worthy of serving in Special Forces. If nothing else, the site that the Rangers maintain here has pushed me to prepare myself physically and mentally for any challenge. I will regard this disappointment as another challenge and do my absolute best to make the best of it.
I would like to thank the Rangers and veterans of this board for their advice and the resources that the Rangers have provided me via this site. I am prepared for the military largely because of the efforts by the men and women of this site. Thank you for your assistance in my efforts to be ready to serve our country.

Ranger KW Driver, I am planning on requesting Airborne as soon as I put on my uniform. IMMEDIATELY. While I understand that I will not be granted the opportunity to go to RIP because of my failure to secure an Option 40 contract, I will go to my back-up plan: after Airborne I will IMMEDIATELY put in for Ranger School. I will pester the Army with requests as soon as I put on my uniform. Then I will come home with my Ranger Tab or I will die trying. I will never quit.

there are several members of this board who weren't offered/authorized OPT 40's who still got to BN. the rules can be different once you are wearing the uniform. why settle for ABN when you could get it all?

Ranger KW Driver:
Then I will go in with my present contract (which is 96b, Military Intelligence), get Airborne as soon as they will let me request it, and get earn my chance to earn the Ranger Scroll. I will beg, plead, and refuse to accept no. I will not fail. I will never quit. I will do whatever is necessary to earn my chance to prove that I am worthy of the opportunity. Thank you for your advice, Ranger KW Driver. It is an immense help.
