My Introduction

Post by Mel »

Greetings Rangers!!

My name is Mel. I'm 29 years old and am very interested in joining the Regiment, alas, I fear I'm already too old. I'm not a U.S. citizen, but will be getting a green card any year now.

I know that a green card is all thats needed to join the Army, but I believe that a U.S. citizenship is required to join the Rangers. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

A little about myself: I grew up overseas, went to an international school, received my high school diploma with an I.B. Bachelorate (similar to A.P....they offered that too at my school, but decided to go for the harder one) :? . Anyways, I attended a 4 year college here in the States, graduated, got my Bachelor of Science and now work here (that's how I got my green card..sponsored by my company).

I've always wanted to join the Army (specificaly the Rangers). In the mean time, I'm going to keep my mouth shut, and do my best to do research on this informative site before spouting off some repetetive questions (I know, I know...search and etc. 8) This country has done more for me than any of the other countries I've lived in, and I feel as though joining the Army (even if I'm not eligible for option 40) will be the best way to repay my debt. I already have a great job, a great life and am happy with my income. But I guess the Call is strong...I'm willing to give it all up for a chance to serve.

I've purchased numerous books on Rangers, Ranger school and Ranger history, but obviously the best information will come through immediate conversations amongst those that have been through it.

Please let me know if I've broken any forum rules yet. I'm new to some of the acronyms...I hope Newt=civilian, so I hope I selected the right avatar. Now that I've bored you Rangers to death, let me just thank you all for all the hard work and dedication.

I believe you have to be a US citizen to qualify for the Ranger contract. It was that way when I was in, anyway.

Rangers & others, thank you for the warm welcome and information. Ranger Steadfast: Thank you for the link. It does seem like you have to be a citizen in order to be eligible for option 40 contract. Oh well.

It won't stop me from enlisting and doing the best I can do...I wonder what the highest option would be for me...Airborne?

Ranger Gordo173: I carry a Swiss passport...although I was never eligible to serve the Swiss army (mandatory for all males) because I never lived there and don't speak their language. I grew up around South East Asia because of my parent's jobs.

Welcome Mel...

A man has but one opportunity to make a favorable initial impression. You succeeded. Enlisting in the Army is a superb path to earn your U.S. Citizenship and I applaud you for taking the initiative. The answer to your question is here on the site. The search feature will assist you and I assure you that there is a detailed response that includes the forms you require. If you turn out to be a good troop, your chain of comand can be expected to expedite getting you through the citizenship wickets.

Sorry I am a little late Mel, but welcome. That was a good introduction and some very good points. Good luck with your endevours... I too wish I had started life in the Regiment... but, after 20 years of good service, I don't regret my career path.

Keep your feet and knees together...
