An Introduction

Post by Jesture »

Hello, my name is Pete and I am a student from the University of Kansas. I've decided that the best thing for me at this point in my life is military service so this will be my final semester. I am currently in the DEP although I have no MOS at this time. I had a battle with the DLAB and came out the loser. However it is my intention to get an 11x ABN contract on my next visit to MEPS. I have nothing but the highest respect for all rangers from any era. I will do my best to in no way offend any of you for you are all truly heroes in my eyes.

You aren't the first to get ripped up by the DLAB. I never took it but heard horror stories about it. I knew one guy that grew up in Saudi Arabia because his old man worked in the oil fields. He spoke fluent Arabic. He failed the DLAB and was never used as a translator. This type of boneheaded thinking in the 1980's put us where we are now.

Why not try Intelligence ? 8) If you score well on the ASVAB try to get 96B (intel analyst) or 96D (imagery analyst.) I guarantee you will see many cool things and go to many cool places. I can't remember the counterintelligence agent MOS but it was 95 something. Don't pick that in the Regiment or you will just be picking your way through dipsy dumpsters looking for unburned message traffic.

No contract as of yet. My recruiter has been giving me the run-around about taking me back to MEPS. He promised me it would be last week and now he says this coming week for sure. Oh well, its not going to change my mind, I will put on a uniform.
