I saw the Prestige over the weekend. It was pretty good. I won't say anything else, in case anyone wants to see it.

It was a good flick."

I think you may be talking about "Hell in the Pacific", starring Lee Marvin and Toshiro Mifune.
It was a great movie, and very ironic since both Marvin and Mifune actually did fight in the Pacific. Marvin as a Marine and Mifune with the IJA.

Just as point of fact, the last IJA soldier to surrender on Iwo was in 1949, but there were soldiers who held out in other islands until 1972, and one discovered in Siberia in 1980.
Could be "Heaven knows Mr. Allison". with Robert Michum.
I think that's it. It was made prolly late 50's/early 60's. Anyway, it was along those lines.

Old Grunt, I know for sure that it wasn't any Dudicoff movies, they were ok as a teen, but pretty cheesy now when I see them.

No bid deal, if I see it again, I'll post the right one.

  While I enjoyed the movie as a whole, I think that was my favorite scene Ranger Matador275.

Before the movie, I had read the book.

All-in-all, it was a great story - centered on the intrigue about the 2nd flag raising and following those that were there (with small bits of combat footage thrown in to keep it interesting).

I was pissed during the movie though, as there was a group of 18-19 year olds, dressed like punks yelling "Hail satan" and other such garbage. After the movie, I ran into them in the parking lot, where they were talking shit about soldiers, etc.. and we traded words... needless to say, they may not talk too much shit about soldiers again. :P
I've been tracking a similar project for a while. HBO is planning on doing another 10 part mini-series based in the Pacific Theatre. Hanks and Spielberg will be leading this one as well. Here's a recent post of a forum I visit:

I came across this Dale Dye interview in October 's SWA's airline magazine, Spirit

What about the rumors of a Band of Brothers sequel?

DD: Yeap, there will be a sequel. We learned a lot doing Band of Brothers and we're going to try and raise the bar. It'll be with HBO again and Hanks (Tom) is executive producing. This time around we're going to follow the first Marine division through the major battles of the Pacific War. The 10 episodes so far will include Guadalcanal, Peleliu, New Britain, Okinawa and Iwo Jima. We even have a naval aviation episode focusing on the Battle of Midway. We're reading scripts now. This is going to be huge huge huge undertaking.

Thought some might be interested in this one.

Ranger Cams, could you mean "American Ninja"? It had Michael Dudikoff and John Fujioka. It's the only other movie I can think of that fits the bill.
Old Grunt, sorry I didn't catch this earlier too, was just reading over some stuff here and noticed it, Cams will do just fine Brother, no need for formalities from you, somehow it seems like it should be me calling you Sir, but, hence forth, Cams, Ranger, asshole, goddamned young buck, you know, anything like that will do....

Excellant!

I'm pretty sure it was "Heaven knows, Mr. Allison" it did turn into kind of a love movie with the chic that was there with him, that's gotta be it.

Just watched " The Benchwarmers" with Rob Sneider and the guy from Joe Dirt (can't remember his name right now) anyway, I laughed my ass off throughout the entire movie!

It was very funny, well worth the rental.

David Spade. For some wierd reason "Joe Dirt" was the cult movie of my 2002 Afghan deployment. I'm still sick of it
