CHINA!

Post by Chiron »

I was reading the Baltic Maritime report and came across this bit of interesting reading.

+++

190 million Chinese farmers moved from the farms to the city in the past 10 years.
100 million more are projected to move by 2010 and another 300 million follow by 2020.

However, to say that millions of Chinese farmers are leaving their often poor homes to work in the big cities does not mean that all of them do really find their way to the thriving Chinese factories. Along with the growing economy comes a growing number of jobless people. Between 1985 and 1999 the Chinese economy grew approximately 8%/year while employment growth fell from 2.6% to 0.9% - and it is falling still.

+++

So I wonder what your thoughts are. It appears that China has a growing unemployment issue that will be really big.

I've read reports that China's economy is not really all that great. Alot of their bank loans are likely to be written off as uncollectable. Their environmental problems are really going to be a problem for them. How are they going to provide clean water for all of those people if they are concentrated in fewer cities. They have some of the worst smog in the world. I also read that the Gobi desert is expanding and that Bejing could be engulfed in 50 years.

Aside from that, if they don't move to a service based economy at some time, they can't employ everyone in manufacturing. There's only so many WalMarts in the world to sell their goods in.

My point is that the bubble that China has been floating on will burst. Probably after the 2008 Olympics but before 2020. Then all hell breaks lose.

So Taiwan is safe for a couple more years. After that, China will use the issue to divert attention from their f***ed up economy.

As far as their water issues, they are building the worlds largest hydro electric dam on the Yeng Si river.

It will bo one of two man made objects visible to the naked eye from space. The other being the Great Wall of China.

Another good initiative poor judgement. The Yengsi is swift flowing, but very silty; they will probably spend as much energy dredging the silt as they generate.

They have another timebomb in their demographics; by 2050 there will be a shortage of women and young people.

The Great Wall of China being visible to the naked eye from space is a myth.

Elementary my dear Watson!!!!

I said from space, not the Moon. You and Snopes are both wrong. Im talking from a distance of the International Space Statiion.

Edited to add: my bocabulary sucks. I should have said dicernable. I should ha e been more specific. As far as my origonal source for my info, it was the discovery channel.

Multiple objects are visible, but they will be the only discernable two. Meaning that they are the ones that can be positively identifiable to the naked eye from low earth orbit.
