Gotta brag on my kid a minute

Post by Creeping Death »

It's been a tough year in the CD house. HH6 has developed some type of health condition. We believe she is having some kind of seizure. It has taken a VERY long process of elimination to even get to this point, and we are still working towards a firm diagnosis.

So far this year, she has had at least two CTs, two complete blood workups, multiple EEGs, monitored her blood sugar, etc etc. You name it, we have done it trying to figure out what is going on. She has passed out at work and been transported via EMS to the ER, where I had to go pick her up, been placed on short term disability at work. The full gamot. After all of this process, our family doctor said he had no clue, and referred us to a neurologist. The neurologist put her on anti-seizure meds, they didn't work, and has now tried her and a 2nd variety.

My wife will feel fine for a few days, and then go downhill and collapse with no warning whatsoever. This first time it happened at home, I found her in the hallway floor with our two yr old kneeling over her as I was coming out of the bathroom getting ready for work. Scared the shit outta me, and I was about to jumpstart her ass until I finally got good respirations from her. I have come home at night and found her unconscious on the floor, and she had been there long enough for the kids to get up out of bed, come back into the living room, and lay down and fall back asleep laying next to her. It has gotten to the point that until we get her figured out, I am afraid to let her drive, leave her alone, you name it. I make her call me every hour on the hour while I am at work to let me know she is still conscious.

Now, to my point. Monday evening after I left the office, I went by my Rescue Squad bldg for our weekly work night - doing PMCSs on the trucks and gear - shit like that. Well, I had talked to my wife about 45 minutes prior to that, and was getting ready to go home, when a buddy comes out of the office and tells me that Central Dispatch is on the phone and needs to speak with me. My heart kind of sunk, because I can think of only one reason dispatch would need me on a land line. They told me that they had just dispatched EMS to my address based on a phone call from one of my babies. I hung up the phone and drove home.

I get there, and the city FD is there, city PD is there, EMS is there, and all the neighbors are in their yard wondering what the fuck is going on. My wife passed out / had another siezure, and fell face down in the kitchen floor. My 3 yr old daughter (will be 4 in Dec) called 911, told them her Mommy needed help, and told them I was at the Rescue Squad, which enable them to notify me. By the time I got there, they had already revived her, and she was sitting up, and my kid was as calm as a cucumber.

Don't think I could have done that at 3 1/2 yrs old. These kids pay more attention than what you think.

Sucks that your wife's having issues, but that your daughter was able to do all the right things is pretty damn cool.

I think at 3, tying my shoes was still kicking my ass.

Just got off the phone with the wife. The local paper called and is coming to the house in the morning to do an article on her. Evidently dispatch called the tip in to the paper and they want to run it. 8)

Great. The kid is already 3 going on 30.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I don't think it is life threatening for my wife, it's more of a severe pain in the ass than anything. We never know when she's gonna go tits up.
