A 14-year-old Travis County girl who said she was sexually assaulted by a Buda man she met on MySpace.com sued the popular social networking site Monday for $30 million, claiming that it fails to protect minors from adult sexual predators.

The lawsuit claims that the Web site does not require users to verify their age and calls the security measures aimed at preventing strangers from contacting users younger than 16 "utterly ineffective."

So fucking what? If she met the guy through school would she sue the school? If she met him through her church would she sue Jesus?

I've got this crazy idea, take the scumbag that actually commited a crime to court!

I too believe there is a parenting problem, however, this 19 year old should know better and be dealt with. Someone should slap the parents and wake them up

Yes. The article says that the 19 year old guy said he was a senior in high school. They swapped emails and phone calls and then went out on a really bad date.

I'm still not seeing what the fuck myspace has to do with anything.

The guy, the girl, the mom and the lawyer all need to be strapped into shopping carts and pushed off a tall bridge.

I have a 13 yr old sister and my folks and I both employ "parental controls" to keep her from doing shit like this. They also check where she's been on the computer and ask who she is talking to when they pass by, and kind of sneak a peek to make sure she isn't lying. All this shit is from parents not watching their kids, end of story. To hell with going to court, my parents would have whooped my ass then locked me up for a few days. This is just some fucked up shit.....

Thank you. Too many parents let the internet babysit their children, instead of actively supervising their actions. MySpace is not responsible for a lack of supervision on the parent's part.

Our 10 year old has been begging to have independent access to the internet, needless to say it's not going to happen right now. When we decide he is ready, it will be under Direct supervision, period.
