2/75 86-90 Intro
Greetings, Rangers. I served in Best Battalion, C Co, 2/75 from Dec 86 – Jul 90. Came over on Christmas Eve, got smoked for a while, took a cab with a couple of other newbies to El Toro just off post and had dinner. I remember trying to E&E back to my room and getting caught by a Samoan Ranger named Duke, who had me elevated on the pay phones. Luckily for me he was moving out for an off-post party so he couldn’t stay as long as he would have liked. It got worse before it got better.
My first team leader was a small, cruel, newly-tabbed SP4 named Stevie, last I heard he was an SGM in Hawaii, and my first squad leader was SSG DeCherrie, RIP. Went to Class 8-88 with Fire-Brain Johnson, aka Ranger3C275 here on the site.
Logged the jump on 20Dec89, and was lucky enough to shoot the LAW through Noriega’s front door at the beach house. Ah, memories.
I wouldn’t trade that time for anything. The lessons learned there are timeless, and have become the filter for all my important decisions today.

>Sorry to hear you got stuck in Charlie Co.<
Guy I went through RIP with, Jones, had the pleasure of an Alpha welcome that Christmas Eve. I saw him a few days later in the RDF - head shaved (of course), with numerous cuts on his scalp that had been generously painted red with iodine and a twitchy sort of thousand yard stare. Not a good look for him. He told me he had been afforded the pleasure of low crawling the quad for a few hours after doing something stupid. (Opening his mouth, no doubt). Merry Christmas!
