bringing weapons

Post by virgin »

sorry for posting Rangers, i promise to put my face to the deck right after i post.
i had a question though and couldn't find it by searching...can you bring you personal weapon to Iraq or are you only allowed your issued weapon?
if so is there some kind of restriction? like can you have an EOtech and not something else? i saw a picture of a soldier with a machete on his back and it got me thinking.

thanks in advance Rangers. hittin the deck now.

NO POW's! (personally owned weapons)

Every weapon that you will need and are allowed will be issued. With the exception of a personal knife.

Sure you can bring a POW ....

IF you can get it on the plane

IF you can keep it with out getting asked alot of embarrassing questions

IF you can resupply yourself with Ammo.

Then after it is all over you will HAVE to get rid of it.

Throwing it off a bridge into a LARGE canal is a good tecnique.......

So in short, NO

Didn't 3rd Bn loose some guys (RFS) because of this in the early OEF deployments?

Plenty of guys (non-military) have their own uppers/optics over there, but you can't bring uppers back and sometimes you are lucky to bring your optics back, depending on what route you take on return. If you want to have your own, buy it in country. But have a plan on liquidating it prior to return.

I know one personally that got an Artical 15 for taking a Browning High Power to Panama in '89. Image

Taking optics doesn't seem to be too much of an issue. Definately don't want to take a weapon though, cept maybe a small knife or something.

We went through some of this for my brother before he went to Iraq. We hooked him up with nice new optical sight for his M4 and a couple other toys.

I have heard that there is or was a regulation that general officers could carry their own personal sidearm, but I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of said regulation. Wouldn't even know where to look for it.

Most EOTechs have mounting problems when used on machetes, go with an ACOG to extend the range to 5 or 6 feet.
