I can't speak for what it is like in any other unit than which I served, but I spent a year as our unit armorer. In many cases, you are a glorified weapon cleaner. About the only maintenance we were allowed to perform was replacing handguards, stocks, pistol grips, etc. I probably spent more time cleaning stuff than I did anything else. But, I did get to go to the range every time someone went, M16A1, M203, M1911, M2HB, M60.

I think the thing I remember the most was cleaning the gas piston on the M60, and how to wire that thing back together. Of course, there was copious amounts of paperwork, and other stuff to keep you busy. Major repairs went to depot maintenance, like the time a SSG in our unit did a PLF into a hole and broke his leg, and bent the barrel on his M16 90 degrees to one side.

Other than the range time, it pretty much sucked for me.

Unless the RSC has them, i didn't think there were any 45B's in Ranger Battalion.

45B does higher leve maintanence. You turn your broke-dick weapons in to them. You know, your bent barrels and such.
