Introduction
My name is Nate and I'm 23 years old. I graduated high school and took three years of college classes before enlisting in the Army last month. I signed an 11x contract with an option 40 and I leave for Basic on May 16, 2006. I'm excited to become a member of this site and look forward to learning a lot more about the Rangers.

Ranger RTO, thank you for welcoming me to the site. I have always been interested in joining the army and recently I've felt that college has become monotonous and I'd like to have to opportunity to serve my country like so many soldiers before me. I would love to be part of such an honorable group as the Rangers and I am ultimately much more excited to join the army than I am for college. I do still plan to graduate college in the future. I feel that I am in good shape although I am continuing to run and workout to be ready for basic. I am from Connecticut.

What kind of shape are you in?
Where are you from?

You have only one opportunity to make a positive initial impression and you're a marginal success, at best. Your first transmission was incomplete and further information was requested. In your second transmission with Ranger RTO, your response was weak and non-specific. I assume you are serious in your desire to become a Ranger, so please allow me to give you some free advice: Read all the FAQs, stickies, and appropriate entries. Learn the Ranger Creed and think about the gravity of what it says. Most of the questions you have can and are answered somewhere on the site. The DEPs have already started to PM you; listen to their advice. Read a lot, resist the urge to hit the send button. Someone will be along shortly to explain how important a high state of PT is to your success. Remember, the search button is your friend -- I'm not.

You will realize very soon how important attention to detail is here. Do not forget where you stand in the food-chain. No one wants to hear long, drawn out excuses. Two words: "Roger that" followed up by the title and you are good in the military. Don't make the same mistake twice or pain will become your best friend.

So you're three years through college and decided to quit. Are you quitting before you flunk out? What makes you think you won't want to quit when you join the Army? PM your answer to me.
