CIB in a CAV unit

Post by Planned Panic »

Many of you know I failed my PT test RIP. I didn't want to leave this site just because I failed RIP, I have learned alot from this site and would still like to learn more.

I am now stationed in Ft. Richardson AK and I am assigned to 4/25, 1/40 CAV. I had one question though. If I'm assigned to a CAV unit as an 11B is it still possible to get a CIB, alot of the 11B's were trying to find out this answer but we couldn't get a straight answer. Some people said yes some said no. Has anyone on this board heard of anyone getting a CIB while assigned to a CAV unit?

8–6. Combat Infantryman Badge
(1) There are basically three requirements for award of the CIB.
The soldier must be an infantryman satisfactorily performing infantry
duties, must be assigned to an infantry unit during such time as
the unit is engaged in active ground combat, and must actively
participate in such ground combat. Campaign or battle credit alone
is not sufficient for award of the CIB

The SNCO's of your unit should have know this.

The answer is yes. You are assigned to an infantry brigade in an MTOE 11B slot.

The BN being a RSTA doesn't preclude that.

SNAP...

Seems you have company there Planned Panic. I would offer that since you are new on station, spend a bit of time learning your duties. CIB's will come in due course.

Exactly. If you earn one, you should have enough humility to know that it is an admirable award, but in the back of your mind you'll know for the rest of your life: "There, but for the grace of God..."

Rangers,

Thank you for the reply's, I realize that the CIB is an award given for the price paid, and that people will be fucked up. I was just wondering because we will be getting deployed in the near future. But again Rangers Thank you for your input. I will continue to learn my duties and everything I can from my NCO's. I will continue to lurk around here, and pick up as much knowledge as I can.

501st and 508th. Soldiers Almanac 2006 has all the units in each UA.
