SITREP Week 7
SITREP Week 7
Hello Rangers, DEPs, etc!
Let me start off by saying Happy Holidays (according to a few retards in DC, "Merry Christmas" is not PC...fucking GAY)!
Seeing as how I'm home on Exodus, I have more free time than I know what to do with. It's horrible, and I miss my playground at 2/58 a great deal.
My initial impression of Fort Benning sucked a huge donkey cock. 30th AG was by far the biggest waste of my time, despite the claim that we'd leave there ready for OSUT. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Day 1 started pretty gravy. Shark attack, lots of holding my duffle over my head and whining like a girl because my shoulders burned. I should have spent more time lifting for endurance than going for burst strength with heavy weight I guess! Oh well - we had 2 guys on 18X contracts piss themselves before we even "hit the beach" for our Shark Attack. Apparently mommy and daddy didn't ever break it off with a belt for their kids or something...
We spent our first few weeks acclimating to the early mornings (early...4:30...hahaha that's late for me now!), and adjusting to being told when to eat, shit, sleep, breathe, etc. LRC, Obstacle Course, Conf Course, Eagle Tower, etc were all in the 1st 2 weeks of being there - I still maintain that this was a great way to establish who had balls, and who would step up to the plate as motivators in each platoon and our company. We most definately have some knuckleheads though! To my knowledge there are over 20-recipients of article 15s in a single platoon. 11-Charlie leads the way with flying colors!
The claymore training was shitty - those things are amazing, and the fact I didn't get to blow some shit up personally also made me want to bitch and moan - but whatever. We fired HE rounds out of the M203, and that was cool shit too. The claymore demo, MK19 demo, firing the .50, firing the 249, and qualifying have been the major highlights - other than ruck marches...
Speaking of ruck marches. FUCKING RADICAL (pardon the throwback word for you FOGs that don't like remembering the 80s). Our baby 4-miler has been the longest to date, which is also something that makes me want to piss on someone, but I realize that in due time we'll go faster, farther, harder. Thankfully I'm a vest-wearer and make a point of being up front to set the pace. We had quite a few fall-outs on even the return 4-miler from one of the Malone ranges - so our DSs seem to think we're keep an adequate pace. Also - any tips on rucking with an IBA on? I've been tempted to move my front sapper plate into the radio pouch in my ruck - shit makes breathing a real chore!
As per qualifying - our platoon outshot everyone else - I just hope people realize that it's different when those pop-up targets shoot back! I wish I could say I shot expert, but seeing as how I'm a dumb fucking private, an error on my part cost me it by 1 target. No wreath on my bolo! Yes, slap me when I get to Fayetteville.
As a company we have the most fuck ups in the history of 2/58 or so it seems. I doubt that's true, but we have quite a few knuckleheads that constantly fuck up. 2 platoons are still under total control (although 1 may have been changed the week we left). We've had 5 total AWOLs, and I believe 3 suicide attempts. The sad thing is that if these fuckers are as weak as they seem, I'm more afraid of them being back there than if they just let them go. In an ARMY of volunteers, I'm amazed these guys didn't expect it to be rough. And that's the worst part - some days we get torqued pretty good - but we don't get hit, no one is being spit on, and I've yet to be made to feel as though I'm a worthless piece of shit. Actually, the subtle hints have gotten that point across like, "hey you private piece of shit...." and things of that nature.
I'll report more as I remember things. I'm still winding down and trying to adjust to doing PT on my own time. I've done well with running every 2 days prior to 6AM since I've been back, and I've been lifting and doing a ton of core work. I hope to max my PT when I get back! I suppose we'll see!
I'm just excited about going back and more stories about "shooting habib in his scrub anus". Take care, gentlemen! My best to you and your families over the holidays!

And I almost forgot!
Our SDS has one hell of an ability to belt out cadence. My personal favorite to march to:
Somewhere there's a mother
Crying for her only son
He's an Airborne Ranger
And his work is never done.
But don't you cry him no tears.
He don't need your sympathy.
He's an Airborne Ranger,
And that's what he chose to be.
Somewhere there's a daughter,
Crying for her loving dad.
He's an Airborne Ranger,
And a damn fine one at that.
But don't you cry him no tears.
He don't need your sympathy.
He's an Airborne Ranger,
And that's what he chose to be.
Somewhere there's a lady,
Crying for her only man.
He's an Airborne Ranger,
with his weapon in his hand.
But don't you cry him no tears,
He don't need your sympathy.
He's an Airborne Ranger,
And that's what he chose to be.
One day there came a letter,
And this is what it said.
We're sorry to inform you,
But your Airborne Ranger 's dead.
But don't you cry him no tears,
He don't need your misery.
He was an Airborne Ranger,
AND THAT'S WHAT HE CHOSE TO BE.

Road marching in OSUT is what you make of it. No one checks your ruck. So you can be a complete shitbag and pack nothing or you can take initiative and beg for more weight.
If you want a heavier ruck, some slug is willing to loan you some of his equipment for a Road March.
Yeah the pace is slow, if your lucky you might make a 16:30 mile but for the most part its in the 17-18 minute range. Be a "Road Guard", they at least move a little faster.
I am going to repeat some excellent advice I was given. Anyone can run on a road march and make the time but it takes discipline to maintain your interval and keep the same pace.

Great SITREP, Aztec!!! Thanks for keeping us in the loop. Don't let yourself get soft by just doing enough to get by or airborne & RIP will eat your lunch. PT during your Exodus. Merry CHRISTmas -- not everyone in DC is PC.

Ranger Jim,
Merry Christmas to you too! I'm very much looking forward to being up in your neck of the woods in due time. I actually wanted to run some things by you and SFC Hit_It just to get an insider opinion, so please expect a PM in the next day or 2. I took today off and feel like complete shit for not getting exercise, but it IS Christmas day, and I'll push extra long and hard tomorrow.
Santa must have been a Ranger, because I got a ton of shit from Tactical Tailor and Ranger Joes. Those little elf-bastards sure do know what's up!!!
Happy Hunting!

Ranger Silverback,
Understand that it was a complaint in jest and I wouldn't actually take out my plates simply for comfort. It's just been a passing thought since when we're not required to wear them, both plates go in that pouch.
And as for being a fucking pussy, roger that. I love being wet and beat to shit just so someone else can smile - that's why I'm in the infantry.

You're not in the Infantry, you're in the 18X pipeline, you won't ever have the pleasure of refering to yourself as an Infantryman!AztecSN95 wrote:Ranger Silverback,

AztecSN95, Take your front ballistic plate and flip it upside down, flat edge to the sky. It works like a charm.
