Blended Metal Bullets
Blended Metal Bullets
I'm looking for any information on what metals are used and how the bullets are constructed, many of my old buddies are working as shooters in the private sector so I'm trying to help, looks like we might be loading regular rounds for people in near future if anyone is interested as well.

Re: Blended Metal Bullets
I've been curious myself. I also heard that the military is staying away from it due to the "inhumane" nature of the round. Go figure...never thought the military would ever consider that with these. I can understand wooden bullets and why they were banned and all, but these rounds seem like a good thing.2rgrbn wrote:I'm looking for any information on what metals are used and how the bullets are constructed, many of my old buddies are working as shooters in the private sector so I'm trying to help, looks like we might be loading regular rounds for people in near future if anyone is interested as well.
You lost me on the last sentence...
I looked at these a while ago. Eventually I came across that article that Phulano posted above and I started to get dissillusioned by all the big buzz words and the complete lack of relevant information. Their data set appears to consist of a single shot and reported word of mouth.
So I kept looking and found quotes like this one: "Officially, at least, military officials say RBCD ammo is no more effective than other types now in use and, under some conditions, doesn’t even perform as well. That line flows from tests conducted a few years ago in which RBCD ammo’s effects were observed in ballistic ordnance gelatin, the standard means for ammo testing. Stan Bulmer, president of sales and marketing for LeMas, responded that standard tests in ballistic gelatin fail to demonstrate the performance of the new technology in RBCD ammo — an RBCD bullet’s destructive capabilities are most apparent in living tissue. Tests using live animals would clearly show its unique effects, Bulmer said. But despite his appeals and the funds for testing provided by Congress, the military refuses to retest the ammo in live tissue." http://www.armedforcesjournal.com/bullets/
So basically the bullet doesn't perform in actual tests and only 'works' in subjective situations.
and: "Not everyone is happy with the gelatin-based lethality standardization. Representatives for Law Enforcement Military Ammunition Sales Ltd. (Le Mas) claim that ballistic gelatin testing protocols will not accurately assess the living tissue destructions created by the new Blended Metal Technology (BMT) ammunition. “Le Mas Ltd. contends that the statistical validity of ballistic gelatin was designed to measure the performance of conventional bullet designs and was not developed to accurately predict live tissue performance from new non-comparable bullet designs,â€
