And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
This verse is still very appropriate today. We are currently in the process of sending those who wish America taken off the map to "the gloom of the grave."

God bless our soldiers and grant them success!

Yesterday the mujh assisted in our celebrations by shelling us at 0711 with 5 rounds of 120mm mortar, no casualties and only superficial damage to structures (USMC sniper team had eyes on and were in the process of putting 'hands' on!). By 1800hrs we were on the roof of the ville, mostly in shorts, hawaiian shirts and flipflops (minus the guys pulling night shift), eating some fabulous Tbones and Sirloins, washing it down with gatorade and sodapop. As dark fell we fired off about 1/2 doz star clusters and flares (after prior coordination with the USMC) for our fireworks display (a la Francis Scott Key...."rockets red glare, etc, etc"). Good time had by all, LN's looking on in bewilderment, client playing poker in the chow hall. Yup Happy Fourth!
