OIF 111 soldier wants to be join Rangers.

Post by astudent »

Hello Rangers, I hope all is well. I have a little less than a year to go on my second enlistment. Once I get back to the United States my plan is to put in a 4187 to go through RIP. Do you think the Army will tell me to reenlist first or will they allow this? I know right now the Army is hurting for personnel, and they are changing a lot of rules. I also have a retention NCOs out here trying to get me to reenlist for 4 more years. He says the Army is only allowing 4 year reups at present.

I am presently in supply, but I don't wish to continue in this MOS. This is another issue. I would like to get out of supply and get another MOS the Ranger Regiment needs. I had a retention NCO once tell me in the Ranger Regiment it is easier to change your MOS than the regular Army.

Thank you for any advice you can give me Rangers.

If your MOS is available in Regiment, Your best bet is to try to get their that way.

You are career, so I don't really see you getting to go to the 75th.

Play hardball, anything is possible.

Hello Rangers,

I am a soldier with 1-10 FA out of Fort Benning. I returned back to the States after a year in Iraq on Monday. I am still motivated to join the Ranger Regiment. I believe our unit did a lot of good work out there. I am a supply soldier but I found myself pulling guard duty, doing customs work and being a part of our units Base Reaction Force (BRF).
One of our units members was a member of 75th Rangers 3rd Batt. He suggested getting my tab first then joining the Ranger Regiment. He believes I will be more respected that way. I thought it would be better to go through RIP first and go the Ranger School that way. My unit is a part of 3rd ID and that might hamper my efforts to go to Ranger School.
Any advice would be appreciated.
