Introduction.
Hello, my name is Jon. I am a 23 year old graduate of The Culinary Institute of America. Since graduating in 2001 I've been working in the private sector as a Line Cook, Sous Chef and Banquet Chef.
I enlisted 6/9/05 as a 92G and I leave for basic 6/23/05. I did not recieve an option 40 as it is not my intent at this time to join the Rangers. My reason for posting is to thank you all for putting together this website and forum. The information I've found here has been invaluable to me when I was still on the fence about making a career out of the armed services. I've found it to be one of the best resources on the web -- even for non-Airborne/Ranger/SF DEPs.

SnafuRacer - I'm not sure what you're talking about. Some private contract through the Department of Defense located at Ft Stewart? I apologize if it's something obvious -- I've had about a million acronyms thrown at me in the last week. But no, nothing resembling the above was offered to me either by my recruiter or at the MEP station. I did qualify for the Civilian Accquired Skills Bonus/Program. Partially because of my degree and experience in the field and my ASVAP score, 92.
And yes, I am very serious about the culinary thing. I realize that my MOS doesn't have the prestige factor that some others do. I will take pride in serving my country to the best of my ability (cooking just happens to be what I'm best at) -- not how 'cool' or 'sexy' my MOS is to civilians.

Welcome.
What's for "din din?"
It wouldn't surprise me at all if you did wind up in the Regiment later on.
Good luck on your future endeavors.

Just be the best damn cook you can possibly be doing what you're doing, revel and take pride in it. That's both respectful and successful in my book.ktown wrote:I realize that my MOS doesn't have the prestige factor that some others do.
