Two days ago I was dropped from RIP for failing the CWST. Failing the CWST really caught me by surprise since I have swam my whole life. I'm kicking myself in the ass for not practicing ahead of time. Hopefully I will have the oppurtunity to return to RIP sometime soon. I want it more than anything.

Sosa,
We are disappointed by your inability to meet the standards (failure). You now need to focus on being the best Infantryman you can be.

Ranger Bell, the reason for me not passing the CWST is poor form . I had trouble moving forward. Between my initial failure and my retest I practiced for two nights and the third day we were on lockdown. I practiced with a 10 pound brick and did well . With gear on the next day it was a totally different story.....

Then you couldn't swim. A weak swimmer. That test is so simple. It eliminates the weak swimmers immediately. You can't be a weak swimmer in a Ranger unit.

If you intend trying again, then practice. Practice a lot. Swim yer damn ass off.

I was a horrible HORRIBLE swimmer when I went through RIP and even I made it. Thankfully my team leader was on the USC swim team before joining the military and showed me the true nature of what its like to drown. It's all about water confidence and not panicking.

Pro tip: When I was going through RIP you were allowed to drop your rilfe for the 15m+ swim. As long as you did 15m even without your rilfe, you passed. However, if you did the full 75m you still got weak swimmer.

We had to keep our rifle above water the whole time, full webgear and though it wasn't "easy" it wasn't that hard either, u just had to concentrate on what you were doing.

Now that you've gotten a taste of what the standards are, go to your PP Station and excel in all areas, do a year, get more experience and volunteer again. Hopefully by that time you'll be squared away and will be able to reach your objective. Good luck to you soldier.

NEXT!!!

Today I learned some great news. I am being given the oppurtunity to recycle to the next RIP class in 2-3 weeks. I believe the other 7 CWST failures are electing to VW. Time to swim my ass off.
