Ranger Rank and Awards

Post by EggMcMuffin »

Rangers and Veterans-

I am curious what your rank was when you left the military and if any of you have earned any special awards such as CIB, Combat Jump, Combat Scroll, etc.? Also, has anyone gone through any special schools like Pathfinder, Military Freefall, etc. ?

Thanks 8)

Ranger Delon275, Did you earn your Expeditionary medal before your CIB? I read back circa 1997 that you can not wear both a CIB and a Expeditionary medal. If memory serves me correctly, you can wear one or the other but not both. If someone can show me the current AR reg on this matter for clariification. I will be corrected.

Edited to add: I could not find anything to support what I read back in 1997. I did find that the AFEM or Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal when it was awarded and the dates or operations it was given. The information is in AR600-8-22 at this link: http://www.usapa.army.mil/pdffiles/r600_8_22.pdf AFEM listed on page 21 of adobe, or AR paragraph 2-12 or page 12 listed on bottom of page.
CIB is listed page 63 of adobe, or AR paragraph 8-4 or page 50 listed on the bottom. CIB Eligibility, A soldier must be Army infantry or special forces officer (SSIeleven or eighteen) in the grade of Colonel or below, or an Army enlisted soldier or warrant officer with an infantry or special forces MOS who subsquent to 6 December 1941 has satifactorily performed duty while assigned or attached as a member of an infantry, ranger or special forces unit of brigade, regimental, or smaller size during any period such unit was engaged in active ground combat. God Bless us all.

SGT, Army Svc Ribbon, 2x AARs, Basic Abn Wings, Expert Infantry Badge, Ranger Tab, Special Forces Tab, Jordanian Jump Wings. Later qualified for the Cold War Service Ribbon, but never filed the paperwork to receive it or ammend my records.

Had 63 jumps when I was in too.

Shiny.....pretty.....medals. 8). Pretty interesting stuff.

I noticed a couple of Rangers listed jump numbers in the sixties. How many jumps is average for someone that spends around four years in Battalion?

Ed, I personally hope your not thinking of joining because of the "HARDWARE".

Remember, the awards, medals, and patches are not what is important, It's the guy next to you, YOUR RANGER BUDDY.

Oh yea, 22 jumps.

Ed, it doesn't matter which unit you go to anymore. They all have metal and medals on their chest. Ya can't wear none of that shit in the field. Makes good targets.

If ya stay in a Ranger Battalion long enough, you'll have plenty of badges and awards.

I didn't stay long enough. My qualifications would take a microscope to see. I was there in between missions and missed out on everything. I got there the day they got back from Iraq and left a few months before Grenada. I've been pissed ever since.

Leave the girlfriend or wife behind and go for the gold. Baggage in a high speed unit will drag ya down. If ya wanna be a warrior then go solo so you can concentrate on the mission ahead. The badges and awards are just shit ya pick up as ya go through the military.

I am definitely not going in just to say I'm a Ranger. They could give me a toga as my uniform and I could care less. I was just curious about the achievments of the Rangers that are on this site. 8)

E-5 SGT., 2 AAM's, arcom, that's it for the big stuff.....

Sometimes it's not the medal itself but the way it was earned.....making a lesser medal meaning more to you then a higher ranking one (in my case).
