Trouble with Airborne Physical

Post by Barrett88 »

I joined last september and was lucky enough to get my 11x Option 40 contract, but for some reason the day I joined I was not able to get my Airborne Physical. I knew I had to get this passed so I went back to MEPs a few days later to get it done. The doctor at MEPs said I needed my ears cleaned and because he couldn't see my ear drum move when I popped my ears. The doctor was kind enough not to fail me. I went to a civilian doctor who said my ears were fine and did not need to be cleaned. Recently, I went back to MEPs and had the physical administered again, this time the doctor failed me because he still could not see movement in my eardrums. Luckily they did not rework my contract. The Liason at MEPs said I might still have a chance if I go to another civilian doctor and have a Tympanigram done which measures how much the eardrum moves. The Liason told my recruiter that if I bring in the paperwork from the Tympanigram, I could get a waiver of some sort and be able to keep my contract. I was just wondering if anyone else had trouble getting their Airborne Physical and what they did to get the job done.

When I got my Airborne physical done I don't even remember getting my ears checked. I only was asked a lot of questions and had to distinguish between red and green lights from a distance.

I had to have my the blood pressure test twice because my pressure was high on the first one. Nothing more than that though. The nurse just re-took it and said take it back to the doctor over there and i got my "picket fence" 111111

When you were told to have your ears cleaned, your ass should have told the civilian doctor to do just that.

Then give you something in writing stating the ears were cleaned.

The MEPS doc wouldn't have given it a second thought, and you would have an airborne stamp right now.

Major minus.

Go get the whatever the fuck it is and hope for the best.

Yeah they told me I had to get my ears cleaned too. So I went and did it, came back the next day and finished up my physical, good to go.

SFC Hit_it,
I went to MEPS and took my ASVAB, and physical on Feb 14th.
As for being a DEP, I am not yet. I will sign a contract (with OPT 40) later in the year.
Due to family issues im around for a while longer.

Went something like this......

Doc: "Turn your head to the right and cough."
Me: <Cough>
Doc: "Turn your head to the left and wait.......um......we have a problem....you know you have only one testicle?"
Me: Sounding astonished "I do!?!"
Doc: "Oh God, we have to um......"
Me: "Relax man, I had cancer, look at my waiver."

Thats my DODMERB/MEPS story. Yes, I had Testicular Cancer.
SHUT THE FUCK UP.....IMMEDIATELY! You will not respond...You will allow a Professional handle this situation. Your comments have added nothing positive to this thread!

I had the same problem but while at MEPS they immediately sent me to a doctor (paid for cab and all) to have them cleaned. It was the weirdest feeling ever and seeing marble sized chunks of wax come out was awesome!

I haven't gone up to meps yet to get my physical but as for right now im screwed. I have a little hole in my ear drum from gettin tackled and havin my head land on a rock the other day. It should heal up in a couple weeks tho, but theres a chance that it won't heal up at all. Hopefully I'll be healed up and clear for it within the month.
