I just bought an XD40 4" for my dad as a retirement gift. That fucker shoots REALLY nice. It feels good in my hand and is well balanced.
I got it brand new for $425 out the door. As far as holsters go, I have seen several of them lately in the magazines. I am thinking about getting a subcompact one for myself in .40. The subcompacts are really small and concealable.

Congrats Ranger want2race!Ranger want2race wrote:Me too, but my wife is with kid so my budget is 1/3 that price.
It doesn't stop there. I had plans to go to Montana to shoot in the Area 1 USPSA Pistol Championships in June, but the wife said "We really need to put in a fence and redo the backyard for the little one to have a secure place to play this summer." That, and the 12 y/o needs braces.
You might look at a Charles Daly, they have some pistols that come with a beavertail, ambi-safeties, etc. for not much more than the Springfield Milspec.

Re: 1911 frames
I got the TLE/RLII. Had to take it to the smith two times for separate problems. They're great once you get the bugs worked out, but that's to be expected with most things mechanical.Juan45 wrote:Kimber makes a good "out of the box" 1911
