My new carry piece

Post by GSXRanger »

I got this the other day from a buddy of mine. He knew I was in the market for a new carry piece... so we went to the range, I ran two boxes of ammo through it, and bought it from him on the fucking spot.

G36, three mags, Pearce Grips +1 extensions on each mag, a soft case, and the box it came in. He can't shoot this gun for shit so he says, I was grouping around 2 inches at 15 meters with it, with decently fast follow up shots.

It DOES have a strong recoil pulse, so you have to have a good grip on it. But, I have fucking gorilla mits for hands, so it fits me like a glove. The first thing I am gonna do to it is a trigger job, and some Novak or Heinne sights. Glock sights are ah'ight, but... nothing like Novaks. I am also considering some Fiber Optic sights. What say the masses?

I also ordered a nice Milt Sparks IWB holster for it. I will update this thread after carrying it for a while. I still wanna run some hand loads through it, and some different ammo. I have it stocked with 230grain Fed Hydroshocks now. Have not fired it yet with the Hydroshocks, but will this weekend. I wanna see how they group. Oh, wait... I am getting my wisdom teeth yanked this friday, so it will be a week or so before I shoot again... D'OH!!!

BTW, I am still gonna buy myself a nice Springfield Armory Operator 1911 for my graduation present... and am seriously considering the SA XD45 as well.

Good little throw down gun 8) I could never figure how Glock could make such reliable handguns and then put a piece of garbage plastic sight on them though

I hear ya!

I carried the G22 / G27 combo back when I was sworn. I even used to shoot IPSC with the G22, and did very well with it. They are great guns, most either love them or hate them. I got used to the grip angle on them, and find them very fast. This little gem kicks pretty hard, but not uncontrollable. I can't wait to try different weights, and types of rounds to see what it likes best.

So far, it is sweet. I love the way it feels in the hand... if ONLY Glock would do the same with the .40 and the 9mm... single stack slim line. They would be on to something!

That's a nice looking pistol. I agree with your friend that sold it to you, though. My only beef witth the glocks is their grips. They always feel like aiming a brick.

My current favorite carry is a little Kahr single stack 9mm. I've put a few hundred rounds through it so far, and it's probably got the smoothest trigger of any pistol in my collection. I love it. It's the only pistol I didn't know anything about when I bought it and I don't regret the decision at all.

GC, I have never fired a Khar, but I do like they way they feel, and they point very naturally. However, I was at the Range last weekend, and the guy there (store owner) said that he has had more Khars brought back than any other gun. Something about extractor issues???

I know Khar just bought Auto Ordinance, and my impression was that they are good quality pieces. Still, I have no experience with them at all.

I did rent a Springfield Armory XD45 and put a box and a half through it. It points very well, sights fall right into place, but... that trigger. I just could not get used to it. It was a "rental gun" so that may have had something to do with it, but the trigger had tons of take up, and when the sear broke, it felt... well, mushy is all I can come up with. I tried some controlled pairs with the XD, and I just could not feel the reset on it, and my second shot was much slower than with the Glock.

Still a fine weapon... the XD.

I would like to shoot a Kahr... if I got one, it would be a 9mm. Something small and controllable.

Judging from the blanket, you were tail stabbing a cheetah. Chuck Norris would be proud. :P
