You can be afforded the opportunity to go to RIP while in Airborne school, I do not know how that will affect it though.

Bottom line:
If you aren't able to get a security clearance, you may not be able to get to Ranger Batt. I know group won't allow anyone without at least a SECRET. Someone may need to confirm that.

I think it's *possible* to get a security clearance having done Cocaine, I'll check with my SSO this evening. It definitely does NOT help your cause though. If you have any history of bad unmanageable indebtedness, serious psychological issues, or anything that could affect your clearance, this will not help your cause.

At the same time, I've seen people that I'd never expect be eligible be cleared for stuff that *I'm* not cleared for, and I work in the intel shop.

I'll check with my SSO this evening, he's on his shit.

It's possible, but a unit SSO would have to do the work. A MEPS SSO is not trying to go through all that for a person to simply enlist. If he was in he could work through an S-2 section on this, but he's not.

Honestly, I'm suprised they didn't make you get a psych eval, SCShooter.

Take the Option 4 and walk the long road.

Short Answer: MEPS is lazy and the SSO is a civilian.

Seth,

Remember to address servicemen correctly. The sticky at the top of this page explains how to correctly address SFC hit_it. PM inbound.

Any further info?

Post by travest »

I'm heading to MEPS on Friday and I have a similar issue regarding my security clearance. Some of the Rangers responding to the initial post suggested they might have further information regarding the possibility of getting a security clearance once you're in. If anyone has further information on this I would really appreciate it.

Also, I know this is a common question, but does anyone have updated information on 11b's volunteering for RIP after airborne? I've seen some threads that suggest 11b's aren't able to volunteer because slots are full. Is this still the case?

Thanks.

RIP Volunteers are taken all the time at Airborne. You would still h a problem because you would have to be able to get a clearance.
