We were getting smoked one day in the RIP barracks. The platoon Sgt. had us all doing flutterkicks. Eventually, people started dropping. The Plt. Sgt. asked if there was anyone who could do 1000 flutterkicks. Nobody answered. That pissed him off and he asked again. This time, I yelled, "I can, Sarnt!" He said, "Really! We'll see!"

Then the smoking started again. After awhile, I was the only one going. He counted off flutterkicks until forever it seemed. I don't know how many hundred I did, but he eventually got tired of the game. He said something like, "You probably can do 1000 flutterkicks, Private....and that's more than any of these other pussies." Then he stopped me.

I used to kind of let my mind wander...almost get into a trance. I did it on roadmarches and when I was getting smoked. I'd focus more on the rhythm, than the pain....if that makes sense. It worked for me.

I'm going out on a limb here Ranger Silverback, but I'm guessing a T-bone isn't a meal. I probably don't want to know.

For my R.I.P. Class, it was log drills with that big mofo log they had up there at North Fort, Ft. Lewis, or the very dire RB-15 drills.
Basically any excersise that has your arms up over your head for long periods of time (and supporting something very heavy of course), well that just about does it for most Students.
