In NATO, they have this large effort underway to insure commonality in everything so that everyone can interchange everything, more so with consumables than hardware, because every country has an interest in seeing success in their own military industrial manufacturing base for economic purposes.
So, bullets and fuel are two areas where this effort towards commonality goes, so that all military vehicles in NATO are supposed to operate on Diesel (a standard fuel, much as 5.56 is standard ammunition) within a specified period.
Toward that end, a company has developed diesel fueled motorcyles, based on the Kawasaki KLR650, a robust yet simply designed single cylinder motorcycle intended as a dual purpose bike.
The USMC put a contract out requiring diesel and a company stepped forward and created it. The thing is a workhorse. Travels up to 90mph (not too fast, but it probably chugs forever) and the kicker? It gets 96 MPG. A future civilan variant is supposed to get 110 MPG.
Damned impressive and I'm looking forward to these being on the market.

Hey there Godspeed, I don't know about your reading comprehension level and ability to do use logic or anything, but if it's said that "Motorcycles are the ONLY vehicle left in the inventory that use gasoline and now that they have produced a motorcycle that uses diesel it would not require NATO countries to carry gasoline as a fuel in the logistics supply matrix", you can pretty much bet that 'Tanks' are what is called a 'subset' of 'everything' and that they would have included the M1 Abrams in the subset of 'Tanks' since it is, in point of fact, a fucking tank.Godspeed wrote:Ranger JimsYZF, don't the M1 Abrams-series tanks also use gasoline?
In addition to that, other than our ability as human beings to use simple logic and deductive reasoning, we're not all experts in tanks. So the next time you're going to ask a lame ass questions about the specifications of a Tank, use the Google search box at the bottom of the site and look up the mutherfucking, easy to deduce for most people with an IQ over 85, tidbit of trivial information yourself.
